Some large buys late yesterday
Rns due surely
The BoD are certainly taking their time with the voting schedule - can't accusing them of rushing into anything ..... how much time do they need...
Please ignore last para, still not woken up !!!!
LC,
"A top hedge fund wouldn't be taking 15% Long position at 54p+ by CFD..."
By having CFD's Sand Grove et al, would mean they are 100% confident of a sale higher than 55p imo.
Why, 100%, how else would they all be able to unload so many CFD alongside actual shareholder if the deal was to collapse at a price above what they paid ..... ie get out without being burned ?
These are pro outfits, who clearly are looking for a decent short term gain that they feel is a no brainer.
+20% return on +£50m is not bad at all for a few weeks work.
The speed of their accumulation tells me that things are about to move rather quickly, I guess next week we will find out.
The only other option is for them to gain +30% and take OPHR for themselves and asset strip, an option that does appear to be gaining ground rapidly. If so, in that case they will offer more than 55p for certain.

Romeike,
Here's what it think. This deal is not as clean as some would like and a few twists 'n' turn along the way.
As you are an avid poster (lol), I'm sure we have not seen the last of your "two pence worth" here as you clearly have an agenda imo. Timing is everything, is it not !

So we agree, I just happen to think there will be some kerfuffle in between. The incidence of White Knights stepping in at the last hour isn't high enough for a convincing bet at 55p with any serious amount of capital unfortunately. The time to take a gamble would be on a sharp fall in the price should the vote fail - and it is looking increasingly likely that it will. Some suggesting Medco may be pushed into upping bid to 5p "to get over the line" - if so - woopdydoo - hardly worth hanging around for when other shares offer better value at far less risk. I think the recent investors are conspiring to scupper the deal and put in place there own team, I can't think of another good reason for them to be acquiring now unless we suggest massive insider trading is going on.
My two pence worth, it will be sold and not for 55p
I sold out at 54.90p. My reason - this isn't going to be sold. Not to Medco and not to some mythical white knight. Investors are gambling that they can buy in, scupper the deal and put in their own team to extract value by whatever means possible including divestment. The opportunity will be to buy a sharp drop as the deal collapses and parties aligned to Medco bail out. Hopefully the current board are stripped out and replaced.
Sorry for not keeping up , hope some one will be kind enough to explain .
Held them for years and i was in slam .
I had thought the buyer had enough shares and it had gone unconditional so i am not sure why its above the excepted 55p offer.
Just when the share goes above 55, I sell a third of my holdings at a massive loss!!!
Decided that I'm adding .... so hello to another small top up, 9,573 shares.
The trading action is not that of a company about to be sold for 55p imo.
Whether that means improved offer, rabbit out of the hat or re-build the company, does not bother me.
To many interested institutions are actively buying at 49-50p so there must be more in it for them than <1p

Still holding around 2/3rd's of original investment, although as time goes on I'm thinking, 'Should I buy back?'.
Have to say the way our BoD are 'leisurely' taking their time with setting up the schedule of voting tells me a possible rabbit and hat is involved.
Lets hope so.

Was tempted when price was hitting 55, but had a good hit elswhere , so willing to wait,
There is now a lot companys had to show there hand here, we have some big players,
We are in great shape to move forward and should kick this offer in to touch
GL mate.
Is anyone still holding? if so any thoughts?
While we await the Chinese celebration to kick off as it's the Year of The Pig ...... (very intelligent animal by all accounts.) lets all hum a little tune !!!
I can wait a little longer and also looking forward to the weekend.

Taking our time with setting up the schedule of voting !
Are we about to be presented with an 'alternative' at the same time as the schedule.
Strange trading activity given we are virtually at the offer price 55p.
What could that mean .... ho hum .... I wonder !!!
Saying that, I have now reduced my holding by a third, letting the remainder play out.

huge 7 mill?
The non-exec's earn a minimum of £70k each ... their fees are set by the board and the non-exec make up the remuneration committee that sets the pay for the board ...... so truly independent ???
How many INDEPENDENT NONEXECUTIVE DIRECTORS has Ophir Energy? What is their function?.
100% agree NK
We can do this without Medco
The II we have is great backing for any company
The Bod need to stand tall .....
I see petrus have increased their holding, they have ben very bullish on ophir up till now. I assume they see some improvement on Medco's offer is still possible?
