Oh yeah forgot to say, IMO small caps are always last to the party (bull market).
From what I remember the last time I looked they were making/on track to make about 20/30p EPS; at 10x P/E this equates £2-3. Net assets should be all assets less all debts, i.e. the value of equity in the company; basic accounting formula; Assets = Liabilities + Equity There's no real use trying to value HCL on net assets as their real business is shipping; i.e. earning money from using their ships to trade, rather than selling their ships and assets. But even on that basis they should be worth 2-3x the current value. Why has their share price been hammered in the past year? Well during the crisis it looked like world trade was going to fall off a cliff but it hasn't been catastrophic; HCL are still making good money! I'm so convinced I'll make money on this I actually took out a loan (I'm a young accountant... young = poor!). Am up on this already but holding on for £2 at least. You should check out Hrco also; another crazy bargain (that you can value on net assets).
can someone help preferably an accountant, looked at the comp financial for h1 2009, and after doing a few calculation i value the compa at 70-100 mii, this means the comp share price should be double the price today. Why is sp so low or have i got the financials all wrong. $246mill usd net assets, which is about £153mil net assets take away 40-100mill debt and market conditions, the val of comp worst case is £53 mill which means and sp of £1.15 lowest. please post an opinion as i is very confused.
I am all for Greeks, but let me suggest that given that Asia is the motor pulling the world out from the brink of slump, and with the Asian giant, China, now intensively developing and actively cultivating its own domestic internal market, a-la the USA internal domestic empire, transportation within borders than those linking states seem to be the real growth area. I think at this point a bet on Siemen's would be better placed. Like it or not, the world is over-stocked up on some great shipped moored and waiting for the good old days to return. We need to scrap a lot of tonnage before that can happen (in tandem with a resumption of global trade). May I suggest while you are waiting for this to happen you avail yourself of the opportunity to learn Greek. It will do you the world of good. Good luck to everyone!
At these prices (and possibly at any point under £1) this share is an absolute bargain. Buy £7200, stick it in your ISA, reinvest the dividends at low points and you can probably retire in 10 years.
Sit tight, be patient
Ticked up again, SELL at 90p, Im going back to my cabin for a lie down!
Aha, a couple of stowaways, thats it fellas the deckchairs are out been pleasant sailing for the past 3 months. Down mostly to HCL I reckon, not mirrorred in other shipping companies if u look at GLBS going the other way after cutting their fleet. Looking at the charts its near a year high, will rocket when (if) shipping ever recovers but would be nice to take a little profit now; however as always spreads a little offputting least its consistant with it.
I bought at 85p a while ago but beleive when world trade picks up they will do well as they have a fairly young fleet of ships which is good business for them.
The spread caught me out at first but i'm glad to say i'm well into profit having stuck with it for a few months now.
bought at 61p, mainly on strength of good dividend, (which never happened), this share seemed to have a trickle of large buys and boom. Only disappointing thing is the spread. But yes happy days
Nobones - A fellow shareholder... Helloooo!!! I'm up 16.75% with HCL. Got in back in May (i think) and patience has been rewarded. I believe it has further to go. Good luck buddy.
Anyone else in HCL, lovely small pointy blue triangle in The Red Sea of my portfolio
well no dividend for us this time and i note the spread has gone back to its usual yawning gap.. but all in all i think they still look strong and to be honest retaining the dividend is probably a good idea.. looking forward to slow but steady growth here.. what about anyone else??
anyone else notice the spread has shrunk considerably?? should attract more buyers when they realize the bargain..
great share; great company; great divi (hopefully this time round as well).. nothing wrong with this one and i do hold it as well
Are you aware of the next ex-div date?
forgot to mention. interim results for 2009 are out on Sept 3.. maybe some movement then..
man this share is slow to move.. i know its shipping but get a move on!!
i wanna buy more but havnt the spare cash at the moment.. agreed that it wont be a volatile share day to day. I dont mind the spread as if the last dividend given around this time last year (7% i think) is given again then that will negate the spread and we can reap the capital gains that will come..
I want to buy more but dont like the spread, but on the other hand we will only see serious mid/long term buyers investing here
exactly.. if you look just at todays market the price should have gone down.. but i reckon this is one great company to invest in.. Its one of those secret little gems i think; which is probably why it is bucking todays trend.
tell me about it! and today the volume of sells has been higher, lol.
well on a bad market day this one has finally decided to rise a bit after being at the same price for ages.. anyone else excited by this company??
