mobile.co.uk usually undercuts their own shops and they own it!
O and mobile is being run by people who don't understand it so they need to pick it up quickly
I don't believe everything he said makes out no shops will close. That's where the cost savings are coming from he won't say it while he in talks with EE. Revenue will be up everyone buys expensive sim free phones but no profit in them. Just papering over the problems. Market share my ass who tells the truth. John Lewis increase market share ao increase market share the supermarket s Argos increase market share. From who ! No way out for this I fear. Yes staff have been giving shares but they have stay 3 years it's so they don't leave
Yes but mobile will continue to be the area the city focuses on and there is clearly plenty to be done.
"Mobile is central to our vision. It is the most important category for us, it is our largest, and the most important product to customers and where we are still number one in the market. But it is loss making and we need to change that.."
Isnt it? Like for like growth in every category, except UK mobile (-4%, attributed to closing 90 stores).
No. One off charges, was never gonna be good
Were these supposed to be good results?

Reckon (hope!!) this will improve the price as there are too much fat in the business and carphone stores are the blubber!...We need a lean machine and Alex will hopefully butcher the business into shape..good offers on at the moment
Have a look at the article over the weekend looks like more shops will close. In tough talks with EE etc this is the problem they come up with ideas around shops on board ships give staff I pads etc but fundamentally the business has lost it's way.
Full Steam Ahead. https://www.dixonstravel.com/dixons-travel-signs-pivotal-12-month-po-cruises-contract/
God...dont we need it

New figures out start of dec, Alex will make sure they sound good as they are his first ones but cant see this share turning round. CPW finished, on the front page of the bbc website yesterday. They have got rid of some deadwood but so many good staff have gone they are lost. Dixons side are losing it as well with internet etc and paying staff poor wages they get poor staff. Service is poor just be carefull with these figures. GLA
Unfortunately certain departments have a culture of 'empire building'.Until this is addressed Alex may as well bang his head against the wall !
the trouble with cost cutting is that you can only go so fat, but Currys had swathes of middle management and lots of Carphone Warehouse stores on the same retail parks as Currys so plenty of meat on the bone.
The problems are fixable but it takes time. The Tesco pilot is being cancelled. Staff have been issued with ipads and will be able to take payments on these devices soon. Things are improving but it is like an oil tanker changing course, it won;t happen overnight. Not sure how you reckon profits will be down another 20%.
The trouble is that cost cutting can only go so far. Baldock may be sacking everyone in sight but I don't see any signs of much in the way of a new and enhaunced marketing strategy. And the days when queues formed round the block when a new phone was launched are as one with the songs of yesteryear.
The P/E is attractive, but profits are expected to be 80% of last years and flat line until 2020. And the profit to revenue ratio is barely 3p in the pound.
I think that I will sit this one out.
JINX! :(
Stores are certainly a lot busier so this seems like a justified balance. We just need clarity on the data breach and a decent Black Friday performance
Posting this will no doubt jinx it...£2 for Xmas?
Seems Currys systems are in crisis- stores haven’t been able to process customer orders for tge last 2 days.
This will bounce but could sink lower to £140 first, Baldock is starting to make his mark. Regional managers streamlined, swathes of middle managers gone. Staff have been issued with Ipads to check stock and will be taking payments on them soon. A welcome upgrade to Currys creaking IT systems. Expect to significant changes in mobile too,
Hi chance of a bounce if we get there again imo.
But mobile problems continue.
we hit 149 in November last year...or has the market completely lost faith in Dixons.....?
It's not 200 job cuts from the head office, but close to 300 from what I've heard.
All,
Forgot to mention in my last blog,
DC to start selling bicycles pre peak to rival Halfords in Carphone Warehouse and Currys stores.
I think they need to start with stabilisers before they get carried away!
