Just looking at box office mojo - for September the numbers are showing the highest average gross since 2001. That seems positive - particularly in relation to questions over whether people are reluctant to go to the movies in the current climate!
One would also assume that they will still put it on Disney + Premium (probably lower than the $/£30 they did for Black Widow) and other platforms (Sky Store, Amazon etc.) after the 45 day exclusivity - and get more revenue from that too, so they will likely earn more over the longer period.
Black widow was a much bigger film than Shang chi, and probably would of made well over $500m if it wasn’t on Disney+. Disney obviously know a lot more about the figures that us and they’ve opted to go back to a 45 day window!
Hi all...re Shang Chi and Black Widow...I gather Black Widow did circa £375M at the Box Office plus another £120M streaming...now I can see data that is telling me that Shang Chi is ahead of where Black Widow was after the same amount of days since release - see
https://www.the-numbers.com/movies/custom-comparisons/Black-Widow-(2021)/Shang-Chi-and-the-Legend-of-the-Ten-Rings-(2021)#tab=day_by_day_comparison
And its great to see less piracy...see below

BUT feels like if I were in Disney's shoes at this point in time Black Widow is way ahead...of course...we have at least another 6 weeks to go before we can see if Shang Chi actually surpasses Black Widow - which feels like it needs to get to as least £495M - and then some more to account for the split of theatre/studio profit...so i love to read all the positivity as I'm a holder..but also want to understand the streming vs window debate...any thoughts...? thanks
Shang chi could over take black widow this weekend!
