But for those interested in proper research about the target market. Here’s the link
Clearly shows how delivery being poor is less of an issue for purchase than price
Shein delivery is slow. Not poor ie the customer usually gets the items on the day or before they are promised. The customer is aware of the slow delivery from purchase and is weighing that in their decision. They aren’t surprised when it doesn’t appear next day
Ask T4g what his “research” shows in relation to 20’s buying clothes. Answer. Nothing
Goldy
My simple chart?
What by Asos of the target demographic about buying clothes?
Yes my chart doesn’t say delivery slots but your might be a survey of 50 year old women buying screws
We know people wait more than two weeks for some items hence why boohoo did so well over the pandemic
Trading for good is very poor at market research. Also what on earth has delivery times got to do with a discussion on returns?
I hope you all see how useless this guy is!
Goldy
It’s not an untruth hence why no one has tried to argue what I’ve said
T4G there is only one person that spouts lies here and can’t back them up and that’s you. I can list them for anyone who thinks you’re credible
Shein have the same logistics as boohoo so that’s upsetting for you
They have always done free shipping as promo btw
Poor knowledge of the industry from trading

I've been thinking this for a long while that they should be charging for returns, even just a small arbitrary amount like £1-2 each order. At least even if the returns continued at, what I hope is an inflated rate, not a permanent situation, there would be at least some cash return, not just expenditure.
I would think most people wouldn't mind a £1 deduction out of their return. I've purchased from here had to send items back as wrong size etc.
Its only my opinion but I wouldn't object to paying a small amount for return. SMALL being the operative word though. It would be no good buying value clothing for small amounts and being charged a third or more of the value to return, as this would put people off.
Charging for returns in inevitable in order for the low cost model to survive.
Ted baker have been charging for a while.
My point was never that Shein give this for all people
My point is that if Shein do this at all it gives you a view as to whether Shein would follow should boohoo charge for returns
I thought this was quite clear in my first post tbh
Some custoemrs will be turned off for charging returns. Does this push some to Shein?
Goldy
goldenyears - if you look at the twitter link you will see that this sort of thing is randomly selected for some customers. If it was happening for all customers then we would see milions and millions of these posts.
It's not happening for all customers' returns, just a few by the looks of it.
Sk I’m not saying it’s right. It’s awful. Check my post history. I’ve called for Shein to be banned a number of times! And I 100% still hold that view
But it’s a reality today. So moral or immoral. It’s being allowed to happen
Don’t confuse me with a Shein fan. I am not! They don’t pay taxes in U.K. either which makes me sick
I’m all for leveling the playing field and this is an example of why it should be
But it doesn’t help boohoo in trying to charge for returns is my point
Goldy
I know it’s what it says on the website but I’m saying, from conversations, that Shein often do this
Here’s some from social media
https://www.reddit.com/r/SHEIN_/comments/nxqxlc/hi_guys_i_just_issued_a_refund_with_shein_and/
https://www.reddit.com/r/OnlineShopping/comments/lyf7uu/shein_refund_without_returning_item/

There are loads. I knew to look for this as my cousin order for her children and they were told to “just keep the items”
So I appreciate what the website says but it’s well documented that Shein do this
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.sixthtone.com/news/1008472/the-shady-labor-practices-underpinning-sheins-global-fashion-empire&ved=2ahUKEwjL8c7aisv4AhUYZsAKHWRYDY84ChDF9AEoAHoECBUQAg&usg=AOvVaw0pb8H_gwnM-cJD_F2FNWxb
Keep the clothes........
At what cost Goldy, disgraceful modern day slavery. Shien should be banned until it comes into line with human rights etc
It looks to me from Shein website on returns that Shein charge for returns:-
What is the return method, and do I have to pay a return shipping charge?
We can offer a free return label for you to use, and you can choose either of the following two shipping companies as your return courier.
? EVRI:previously known as Hermes
The first return label in your order is free. If you later decide to return additional items from the same order, we will deduct £ 2.50 from your refund. You can either use the provided return label or the QR code. (The size of the return label should be 102x152mm)
? Royal Mail
The first return label in your order is free. If you later decide to return additional items from the same order, we will deduct £ 2.50 from your refund. You can either use the provided return label or the QR code. (The size of the return label should be 100x150 mm)
goldenyears - do you work on hearsay only, because it seems to me you did no research on this at all.
Needs to be put on Tik Tok and elsewhere - get your items free from Shein by asking to return them. Shein don't want returned items, instead Shein let you keep them for free.
So, all Shein customers need to ask to return their items and they'll get them for free. That will eat into their profits.
Plus, if they can afford to let customers keep the Shein items instead of returning them, it shows how little they're paying for the items they sell.
Get the message out to Shein customers if you ask to return items you get to keep them for free.
The comparison to telcos is flawed. This is as the people selling the phone contracts were selling third party manufactured handsets
The third party manufactures were happy for this to be charged (increases value in their product and also extra revenues from the contract). So Nokia can help make the move global across the market
The difference with clothes is the suppliers don’t have this control. They are fragmented. So if boohoo charge returns and Shein don’t there’s nothing to force Shein to follow
At the moment if you request a return to Shein in most instances they don’t even ask for the product back! They just say “keep it” which is madness but clearly shows their economic view that they know returns are more costly so won’t follow with charging for returns
The question again falls between customers who value speed and convenience (boohoo) vs those who value price (Shein). If boohoo charges for returns does part of that differentiation go? Perhaps
I guess it’s a trade off between impact to sales growth vs cost saving. So growth over cash
Atm I’d say it’s a sensible call as boohoo’s cash position is herendous but I don’t think the market will appreciate another sales warning. Especially as I think boohoo have their neck out already on holding guidance can the rest of the peers
Goldy
They do and very soon, short term pain for better gain. People will winge but thats life.
Many examples of introduced charges that are moaned about initially now just accepted. Our council charge £33 for green waste to be removed every 2 weeks, was a huge moan, the council lost less than 2% subscribers once initiated. Just an example
Just like Zara have done. That will stop the chavs from returning their items and purchasing them in the first place which in the short and long term will be a big win.
