This was the article which I think has been posted here before.
https://newdigitalage.co/2019/10/14/simon-gosling-why-gaming-should-be-top-of-marketers-media-list/?utm_content=bufferc679b&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Not quite sure about SG, I followed him on Twit for a while and couldn`t quite put my finger on how he came across, it was a bit wacky and cryptic at times but just thought that must be how a futurist talks.
He put up a link to an interview he did on newdigitalage dated Oct 14th and titled ...Why every marketer needs to understand gaming. In it he came out with something a bit `loose canon` when asked what brands and agencies can do to succeed in the in-game advertising market...`my answer was to employ someone who knows how to speak Game. Someone who lives, eats and breathes video games and esports`.
But the next sentence was where I thought he overstepped his job description, he said...
` At Bidstack, even though we’re all gamers, we nevertheless employ a 22 year old gaming fanatic as our Head of Esports. He keeps us all fully up to speed on all the latest goings on and we’re also hiring his services out to brands, on a daily consultancy rate, to advise on the opportunities, risks of in game advertising and esports.
I don`t think its the role of the Chief Marketing Officer to declare that `we`re hiring out his services to brands on a daily consultancy rate, surely that would be for James or the Financial Officer to announce, and as far as I`m aware they have never discussed that aspect of the company publicly.
I think he may have spooked JD into thinking that he could jeopardise something in the future by speaking out of turn, and with some serious NDA`s under observation I think JD couldn`t risk it!
This is all just a theory of mine and could be complete ******io`s, but the date of the interview certainly fits in with his Twitter feed going cold as the CMO of Bidstack.
*getting rid because they weren't cutting the mustard
If Gosling and Dembitz are gone, I think that has more to do with Bidstack getting rid than them because they weren't cutting the mustard - as opposed to them leaving because they think it's a sinking ship...sinking ships don't get deals with Trade desk, Dentsu, Codemasters, SEGA and don't get on Google Stadia.
I know who I trust more out of two blokes vs a couple multi billion pound companies...and the fact Gosling blocked a tweeter indicates he left on a sour note, perhaps the star studded advisory board didn't think he was the right man for the position. Plus we've recently signed an EA senior VP onto our advisory board...I'm quite happy with that swap transfer!
Yep two very high calibre individuals gone, not your run of the mill middle management by any stretch. No acknowledgement, SJ not even mentioning BIDS on past employment. Does make you wonder with the timing of both departures but bids PR on lockdown - gone the heady days of the JD JW tag team ramps!
Gosling chief marketing office, dembitz chief commercial officer.
Perhaps dentsu said not needed once strategic partnership announced
Reckon he got binned?
Seems odd as there was fanfare when he arrived, then not even a post to say thanks for the work.
For the record rob dembitz has gone as well.
Asked Gosling on Twitter what happened to Bidstack.
He’s now blocked me.
That’s not a reaction I would expect unless he fell out with the BoD for some reason.
If anybody wants a bit of a feel for bids historically have a read of Roleybirkins(hope you don't mind) old posts I've only been here since March so it's interesting.
We found out yesterday Wolfy looks like a big job maybe to big to turn down
Gosling lasted just four months at Bidstack...
Cannot see him leaving being an issue and wish him well.
Thoughts anyone?
