Interim Government by sept http://www.wral.com/thai-junta-says-interim-government-by-september/13730610/

The Thai market has repeatedly showed incredible resilience in the face of turbulent politics. Sorry if this following comment is not caring towards Thailand, but I can't help wondering just what the country could achieve if it rid itself of the nepotic meglamaniac greedy narcissistic feudal knuckle-dragging half-wits that currently populate the country's politics.
they usually do good in depth research, I've not had time to read it yet but here's the link. http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/news/125494/market-reaction-thai-coup.aspx
I think we will tentatively cross the 400p within the next two weeks, inshallah
Thailand curfew lifted in Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya
Thousands of police and troops were deployed to Thailand’s capital Sunday in a bid to crush planned mass protests against the country’s recent military coup. Deputy police chief Somyot Poompanmoung told Reuters that 5,700 police and soldiers are headed for Bangkok Sunday, with plans to quash demonstrations in other areas of Thailand. According to numerous media reports, Bangkok’s commercial center has been largely shut down.
stuzeeuk your posts are very helpful and insightful as well as being caring towards Thailand. Thanks.
Hopefully a years stability will lead to a year of recovery and Thailand will be in a better position to enter into elections. I wonder what options are being considered, such as electoral reform, or reforms of the main parties. I can still see the spectre of Shiniwatra looming large however.
According to the Thai military, it might not be ideal but at least its stability.looks like my source were correct happy days
The SET rose 0.5% today, higher than the level recorded before the military staged a coup last week. The coup leader have reassured investors that they intend to kickstart the economy. Lets hope they do !!!. There has been no further bloodshed, thank goodness, since the government was removed and it now appears the markets are responding positively. Long may that continue. Obviously the situation is still fragile and key economic agencies have said they a project 6.3% growth in 2015. Lets hope for a political settlement in the near future also.
An unpopular as it is, I dont the current coup will be a short live affair. I think this may rumble on for some time. Hopefully all remains quiet and safe.
I think the markets will turn, the statement from the US will have spook people. However the Thai military have a good record of safe stewardship, I think it will calm. The biggest challenge going forward is finding a peaceful political settlement. Thios looks significantly challenging
So the coup hasn't gone down as well as martial law, SET down 1.5% http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-27532544
The Thai SET has risen 0.5% the last 2 days erasing the 1% down after the martial law was imposed indicating that the markets are fairly happy with the situation.
Yes definitely, although I am not sure how we will overcome the politcal stalemate .... The opposition need to get their act together to garner nmore votes....
http://www.bangkokpost.com/ Possibly a good thing
Discount, today, is at 11.7%. So, it is falling.
Have a look at this article: http://www.citywire.co.uk/money/aberdeen-new-thai-offers-lesson-in-single-country-risk/a748387?re=28779&ea=307418&utm_source=BulkEmail_Money_Daily_Summary&utm_medium=BulkEmail_Money_Daily_Summary&utm_campaign=BulkEmail_Money_Daily_Summary
Have we hit rock bottom and on our way back up? or is this a dead cat bounce? Personally, I think it will be a long few months, but we will be back on track by the end of the year......... Yingluck is gone (I thought she looked weak during the floods), new cabinet will oversee until an election date is negotiated. fingers crossed Personally I think reform of the opposition is what is needed, they seem to be stuck in second place.
Looks like some good political news, assuming some form of compromise is reached. According to media reports. Thailand is looing to its Senate to Solve a Deepening Political Crisis. The upper house met Monday to discuss options after Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and nine of her cabinet members were removed from office last week by the nation’s Constitutional Court.
Pressure building in Thailand May 9, 2014 : After the ousting of Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the opposition 'yellow shirts' are making a fresh push to oust the government. But loyalist 'red shirts' are planning their own demonstration. Michael Peel reports from Bangkok.
Personally I like the Bangkok Post at it adds a broader perspective to the pure economic stuff. Get you a feel for the mood. Just as an off topic, the Bangkok Post was famous for it's headline writing many (many) years ago and I remember a few classics. One time a Nigerian was caught at Don Muang Airport with heroin in his arse, and his name was Goodluck Friday. He was caught on a Saturday and the front page ran "Badluck Saturday for Goodluck Friday" with a picture of the said Nigerian with the offending drugs laid out in front of him.
