Thanks Dorsett - how did you find that out?
I believe Simon Thompson from the Investors Chronicle is talking up ALM. I’ve not read what was said though
Des anyone know what has just happened?
Ask the cat
Maybe next year, they’ve used every other excuse, how can a board with three possible unicorns go ten years with excuse after excuse and still draw their considerable, considerations, consider the share holders is my plea.
From todays RNS
"Orbital Sidekick was founded by Dan Katz and Tushar Prabhakar, leveraging their extensive experience in small-sat design as engineers at Space Systems Loral. The team has built a complementary network of advisors to bring expertise in oil and gas operations and regulations, hyperspectral analysis, and data services.
Holdings and valuation:
· Date of Last Funding Round: April 2018
· Post-Money Valuation: $11.7 million
· Co-Investors: 11.2 Capital
· Allied Minds' Issued and Outstanding Ownership: 33.23%
· Allied Minds' Fully-Diluted Ownership: 29.67%
· Orbital Sidekick has made significant progress against its key operational objectives since its last funding round."
You didn't read it all clearly.
First the little moan. Quite the most annoying feature of ALM announcements is that they never include the %age interest that they hold in the particular investee company. So you then have to go back to the last annual results announcement to dig the information out.
So, this tells me that they have a fully diluted holding of 30% in Orbital with a last internal company valuation of $11.7m. Well, rip that up, the value of the IP & commercial execution must be somewhere north of that imo. So, yet another fine arrow to their bow. We can now count on 4 investee companies where their is a likelihood that significant value wll be realised.
Looks like a good update to me. Hopefully markets likes it and draws a line in the sand of the old Allied Minds
Very sensible Nucky. A final salary pension started at 18 y.o. is very rare in this age. It would probably cost you £1m if you had to buy an annuity with the same inflation proof income for the rest of your life. You can count yourself very fortunate.
Regarding investing in shares; I think it's something you have to enjoy. If it causes you worry and stress then definitely knock it on the head. As for me, I enjoy it. I spent many years losing money but I like to think I've got the hang of it now. I aim to retire at 52 (three years from now) and I'm pretty sure I can make a steady income from investing in shares as well as my pension when that kicks in.
ALM is a good share to just leave and forget about. Check every so often but don't stress about the short term movements. It may take a few years but I'm sure this will come good. As for tomorrows results, I expect some news but nothing major.
Loot, nice honest post. I had a sell limit today of 41p which appears to have been hit however my shares didn’t sell. I believe these some kind of financial announcement tomorrow so we’ll see what that brings. I’ve gave up on the stock market. I hold 3 stocks. Two are good and I include ALM in that bracket. ALM are at pre COVID along with my other good stock and I get a decent divi from them. My other stock will take a few years to recover. Anyway, life’s to short to be worried about the fekn stock market. I don’t think I’ll invest another penny apart from my SIP and the final salary pension is ticking away nicely. Probably my best financial move was starting my pension at 18. Anyway, changed days, changed world. Hope it works wherever your next investment takes you.
All apple products are moving over to ARM chips, hopefully some of spin’s patents will be involved In the arm chips
Well I’ve answered that question Nucky because, as of this morning, I’ve completely sold out of ALM. My average buy price was 43p and average sell 40p. So a slight loss but the special dividend earlier in the year means I made a modest profit overall.
I still believe Fed Wireless has potential once 5G is implemented and I will keep ALM on my watch list because it is one of the few companies with exposure to 5G while still being small enough for success to have a material impact on share price.
So why did I sell? Nothing to do with ALM or the companies in the portfolio, it is simply because the roll out of 5G has not been as anticipated when I first bought last year. I bought thinking 2020 was the year, now I believe it could be as late as 2022. Yesterday’s underwhelming launch of the new iPhone has just confirmed that belief.
We all know the reasons; Covid, Huawei as well as infrastructure issues. All of which can and will be overcome but it could take several years for 5G to hit the critical mass required for Fed to start generating revenues. Actually, I now believe Bridgecomm are more likely to achieve revenues first.
Which brings me to my second point; by now we should have some idea on revenue expectations for Fed. There has been very little detail and this makes me nervous. Don’t get me wrong; I realise both Fed and Bridgecomm are pioneering new business models and a certain degree of uncertainty is to be expected. However, I strongly suspect both companies simply do not know themselves.
The ‘Field of Dreams; build it and they will come’ business model is popular in US and it has worked splendidly for Amazon, Facebook etc. However, we are entering a new reality in the next few years. With a recession and a falling NASDAQ I’d like to see a bit more clarity regarding the future.
Looking at the short to medium term, I’ll watch the C Band auctions with interest to gauge ongoing interest in 5G. I shall also turn my attention to some of the more traditional business with proven revenue streams which are now at incredibly low valuations due to Covid (SGC, BAKK, RNK, FOUR).
I haven’t written off ALM, I just think I invested too early and for now there are other opportunities with a better risk/reward profile.
That is the question
Yeah I’m hoping so
The move to 5g has been rather sluggish so we need something kick start it
Apple's move to 5G Technology has got to be good for Fedwireless
I think Spin has the biggest future potential out of the three, it’s hard to predict what their revenue streams are given they don’t say much. All we know for sure is that they’re producing chips for the US military. Given that info, I’d hope they’re nearing a break even point but again it’s so hard to predict as there’s so little information to go on. I’d love NVIDIA or someone similar to someday announce a chip that uses Spins tech under licence. That would be great day for us all.
I haven’t done much research into Bridgecomm to be honest but the tie up with Nokia is certainly very interesting. I think again they’re still quite early stage and so unlikely to be producing revenue.
Evening dorsett,
You make a good point there. Normally Alm updates don’t tend to reveal much, I wasn’t expecting much.
But i forget that we could now be informed of revenues!!
Would be great if fed are starting to generate ££. Any thought on spin or bridge?

A good watch there for anyone who wants to increase their understanding of FWs offering.
I hadn’t realised previously that WISPS are required to licence an SAS in order to migrate from part 90 to part 96. I hope we can see a good increase in revenue for FW in Thursdays update.
FW also have a white paper on the subject published on their website:

Yeah good spot jeffa, I read the article yesterday
More pieces slotting into place.
Love it when technology gets military exposure.
Fed, along with others, working with Department of Defence

Crystal Amber have been very quiet of late, must be happy with what’s happening in background. Suppose sooner or later we have to get a satisfactory report, any slip ups and I’m afraid it’s off to the headmaster for the board. Look forward or some news.
Cat
Take a look at the trading pattern for the last 4 or 5 days.
Loads of tiny trades that make no sense. And stupid swings in the SP.
ALM are in theory trying to give shareholders a return. So the disposal of assets will IMO happen eventually.
There’s value here I think. Discount to NAV is excellent imo
We just have to be patient
Been here so many times, heading to a financial report with real hope that the companies have now delivered something tangible that the market can no longer dispute and then coming away with the Jam tomorrow comments from the CEO. Fingers crossed for us, this company is fantastically positioned just need to get the monkey of its back.
Interesting picking up on the thread re MM's and their tactics, I have no idea if any of that goes on (wouldn't surprise me) but todays trades at the same money same time and descending does look odd. Trading is very low also... is that due to a lack of sellers???
yeah that's good food for thought Loot
There will be a catalyst for 5G eventually.
Perhaps as we enter a new covid type world the emphasis on distance and remote communication will speed things up
Cant see next weeks results telling us much or having a positive impact.
But I'm glad the iphone 12 is coming
