Electricity: a breakdown in the transport network disrupts service in several districts of Douala
Business in Cameroon) - This September 16, 2021, we learn in an official message from the concessionaire of the public electricity service in Cameroon, “ Eneo (was) informed of the occurrence of an incident at the Sonatrel station (National company transmission of electricity, Editor's note) from Logbaba to Douala, and the disruptions resulting from this situation on the service to its customers ”.
“ Following the thunderstorms last night in the city of Douala, Sonatrel recorded an alert at the level of the 225/90 kV transformer n ° 2 of Logbaba. As prescribed by the operating procedures for this type of structure, this transformer was removed to carry out in-depth checks , ”explains the public electricity transmission company. However, she does not say when the situation will return to normal.
Eneo, which claims to follow developments closely, lists no less than 24 districts of the Cameroonian economic capital affected by the disruption of the electricity service as a result of this incident. Among these is the area housing the freight services of Douala International Airport.
Since the transfer of the electricity transmission activity in Cameroon to the public company Sonatrel, the breakdowns on the transmission network have increased, despite the provision of this company of Eneo agents formerly dedicated to management of the transport network. Since the start of 2021, these blackouts have become more recurrent, sometimes depriving entire cities of electricity for several hours.
For example, for the month of January 2021 alone, the country experienced two collapses of its transport network (January 25 and 28, 2021, Editor's note), which impacted distribution on the entire South interconnected network (RIS), which brings together the regions of the Center, the South, the Coast, the West, the South-West and the North-West, ie six regions out of the 10 in the country.
