We are so lucky to have you on here Mole telling us daily what a pile of carp Vodafone is , it's a really good job you don't own a single share in Vod yet spend your valuable time educating us.
They are little less forgiving on yahoo forums. Mostly Americans buying the ADR's.
User @Dan says (have you been moonlighting dan?) 'I curse the day I bought this trash.'
@Erika 'Sell this cr@p'
@someone 'Schwab gives this garbage an A rating? I won't trust their analysts!'

buybacks are almost always better than dividends. the tax event that dividends create is a major headache that buybacks avoid
Do we finish on the lows of the day yet again ?
"I think the narrative that a falling sp is going for any buy back scheme is a bit thin.
Its only good if the sp rebounds, but there is no logic that a falling sp should go up again when the buy back is over."
When I get time, I might read through the relevant RNS's and the published documentation, associated with the MCB's and the share buybacks, as I admit to struggling with getting my head around the advantages/disadvantages of Vodafone's approach. I would guess that Vodafone are acting in their own best interest.

Indeed the buy back could be masking what would be a bigger fall in the sp by Vodafone buying its own shares therefore creating a false demand.
The question as always is what is good value do you feel 123p under or over values the company. To me it feels like a fair price, not bargin basement, but not expensive either.
I am tempted to add a few more but you have to be making something of a guess as to whether you feel the drop has ended.
danielh, yes when a lot of folks are following something and or aware of something, it then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. so at the very least you need to be aware of these things. using technicals can shave a lot off entry prices and add basis points when exiting.
"If I owned 130 thousand shares in vod paying £2 a share & the sp fell to 1.23, & I buy 30 thousand more, I am far worse off than if the shares hadn't fallen in the 1st place."
Daniel, this share buyback can't be compared to an individual topping up, it's related to shares issues as a result of MCB's
" 12 March 2021
Vodafone Group Plc
MATURING MANDATORY CONVERTIBLE BOND AND INTENTION TO LAUNCH AN ASSOCIATED SHARE BUYBACK PROGRAMME
In March 2019, Vodafone Group Plc ('Vodafone') issued a two-tranche mandatory convertible bond ('MCB'), the first tranche of which (£1,720,000,000 1.20 per cent. Subordinated Mandatory Convertible Bonds; ISIN XS1960588850) matures today, 12 March 2021, and the second tranche of which is due to mature in March 2022. In order to satisfy the conversion of the first tranche of the MCB, 1,426,710,898 shares will be issued from treasury today at a conversion price of £1.2055. This reflects the conversion price at issue (£1.3505) adjusted for the pound sterling equivalent of aggregate dividends paid in August 2019, February 2020, August 2020 and February 2021.
As a result, Vodafone today announces it intends to commence a new share buy-back programme on 22 March 2021 (the 'Programme'). Further details of the Programme, including the target number of shares to be repurchased, will be announced in due course.
Details of the mandatory convertible bond can also be found on our website under:

Hey Dan, so you are holding 160,000 VOD shares then. Of which 130,000 were bought @200p and 30,000 @131p. The total losses would be around £100k. That's a lot worse than me and you seem still rather relaxed. You are really brave indeed amigo........lol
probably just as simple as dividend interest gone for a while. The more it falls the likelier I will add to my holding.
Well Daniel - its doing as it always does and will soon be dropping below the £1.20 - very very disappointing - on the upside virgin galactic has just received FAA clearance and is up 20 % pre market.
usually_right. Hello. Do you have any evidence that technical charts, technical target ranges work. If they did, surely we could all just follow them, & be very rich? Are you very rich? Good luck.
Fleccy. If I owned 130 thousand shares in vod paying £2 a share & the sp fell to 1.23, & I buy 30 thousand more, I am far worse off than if the shares hadn't fallen in the 1st place. A falling share price is never good for a holder of those shares. Also vod has bought back many shares at a above todays price. Of course if the sp goes back to £2 (by Christmas)!! Then I will be better off. A big but though, So come on santa?! But yes I think 1.23 is a bargain, so fill your boots before the sp takes off again.
'I'd say Vodafone are getting a pretty good deal on their buyback program, arguably the lower the price goes the better it is for Vodafone'
Makes sense. Have to see they bought at these prices in next rns. Might just be timing and bau next week/ month!
The latest 24th June RNS states:
"Number of ordinary shares of 2020/21 US cents each purchased 5,707,175"
"Volume weighted average price paid per share (pence) 126.29"
"Vodafone holds 957,696,851 of its ordinary shares in treasury"
I'd say Vodafone are getting a pretty good deal on their buyback program, arguably the lower the price goes the better it is for Vodafone, unless I'm misunderstanding the mechanics around convertible bonds and share buybacks. Maybe someone could clarify if the current low price is to Vodafone's advantage, or not?
important day technically as falling below the 200dma so far today. not seen since around the time of the vaccine news last november. a close below the 200dma puts 119 into focus. if that holds then it would look like the 9 month range holds for now (c.120-140). if not and 119 breaks then 113 is the next target. the shares are good value but you cant argue with the trend, so if they close below the 200dma today you are going to get some technical selling.
"Think management need to raise strategy emphasis from hybrid bonds but ecb and berec probably the controllers here"
Interesting that market vested interests are managing to hold the price down, effectively aiding Vodafone. I'm not complaining, I hold Vodafone stock.
maybe dropping because sell-off of yesetday
'Isn't a low share price an advantage, while Vodafone are in the midst of a share buyback program'
Agree. Its just dropping back to its average buyback price less div imo.
Think management need to raise strategy emphasis from hybrid bonds but ecb and berec probably the controllers here
"Well i guess the normal service has resumed here .SP is dropping lower and lower - are we dropping back below £1.20 - i really hope not . Will be interesting to hear what the shareholders think at the AGM in July ."
Isn't a low share price an advantage, while Vodafone are in the midst of a share buyback program, just saying, or am I misreading the situation?
