It’s all IPA now IBAB! Hoppier the better!
I shouldn't talk about my new chums like that. They're really quite friendly and have even invited me to their beetle drive.
Think I'll go out tonight and have a few pints of mild.

Many thanks for that more in depth info on administration earlier this afternoon. It is appreciated.
Fred
I think I may be joining you on some of those more quieter boards if AA get us for 5.5pp. I tried one earlier and the last half dozen posts were talking about the Titanic and the recent invasion of the Falklands. I felt like I was in a Quaker meeting house surrounded by people wearing beige. It was a bit strange to start with after being in the company of those on this bulletin board for that last few years. With you guys I feel like I've been on an 18 to 30 holiday base jumping with the volume turned up to number 10. Still, I shouldn't talk about my new N
just been back there again as well, looks like they are still after a mining licence. wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
Emmerson is going from 5p eventually to £2+ according to the BoD (right JR?).... as you say what could go wrong.
modsto123.
True I was just looking in though, I've got no intention of buying any of that stuff though :-)
IBAB you surprise me. I thought you would have been proclaiming the benefits of compounding dividends.
Liquid lunch is a good use but if people are REALLY going to manage their investments properly I would advocate reinvestment of all dividends. Just my approach.
Nice to see some sensible discussions on investment strategies.
Fred - I think I mentioned this before, big companies with quiet BBs aren’t a bad thing :-) Also, as you state, there is no reason why you can’t still have a punt or two and then balance the risk with your other investments diversified in safer stocks or funds.
top advice from Forseti I said......then I find him on the Emmerson board along with JR . great! what could possibly go wrong there?
top advice from Forseti .
Fred.
I'm doing the same, extracting myself from this mess and picking funds and dividend payers from now on..
starting with funds ... vanguard, scottish mortage investment trust.
bombed out blue chips BT Reckitt Benkiser
but mostly funds.
not quite as exciting as SXX but I'll sleep better.
"But the shares I’m probably going to invest in have very quiet boards. But I might choose one that on a much lesser scale is a bit of a punt and fun to follow!"
Good to see you've not been put off shares, FRED. Your intended strategy is what I do, and probably similar to many people who make steady money on the markets although perhaps some don't include the 'fun share' - but I believe we all need a little bit of fun.
Being over cautious (the flip side to not investing in the markets) often leads to large losses over time due to inflation, but because such losses aren't so easy to see it's easy for many people to feel more comfortable with their 1.25% bond from the building society.
Hi IBAB - I’ve changed my mind - I am going to invest in shares. I’ve been for the first time reading the boards of other shares and what I am going to do in future is read, listen and keep quiet - or try to. But the shares I’m probably going to invest in have very quiet boards. But I might choose one that on a much lesser scale is a bit of a punt and fun to follow! Sirius SH’s might be unique and I’m guessing this board has been a bit as well. I don’t regret being part of it and will take what I’ve learnt from it with me. That’s why I’m still here and joined ShareSoc - I want to do my bit to ensure that those have been on this rollercoaster ride get heard and listened to and get their questions answered because we deserve that at least.
Arrghhhh.
