DerekR I agree with the vast majority of that. It is difficult as you say withy current USO and only limited scope for walk amalgamation as I am sure there will be some delivery points that may only get 1 or 2 items per week. Of course geography will play a major part. We are where we are re private ownership and I accept the need for reinvestment but not sure many of the major institutional holders would hang around if no or greatly reduced dividend was in place. If someone could assure shareholders that the SP would go up the more that is invested maybe but thats nigh on impossible. I agree re being honest with each other and no party should be in denial. Less Customers - Less revenue - Less profit = bad news for all.
DerekR thanks for your post and someone who knows what they are actually talking about. I was directly involved at a local level (strike control) where I had to provide information to the main group I believe based in Old Street. My recollection is is similar to your and as you say some of the key priorities will have changed. Various contact teams work very closely with our major customers as you know and will potentially already be working on diversions/deferrals etc Yes the CWU can cause disruption but I totally agree the bigger picture/longer term damage by losing customers and revenue which makes any costly agreement/pay rises less likely. I have said numerous times on here no one wins, be it the employees, the business or shareholders. My fear is Rico might push on with the TUPE of PFW whilst that may to an extent protect some revenue/profits longer term the remaining letters business will suffer. Perhaps that is his strategy but I hope not as there can be a great future for all if working together.
Firstly Fruitster thank you for your posts over the weekend which came across as very genuine, informative and honest. As you say some of the other posts were just vile and hardly worthy of comment. Should any IA take place the business has teams of people managing the situation and with the notification the CWU must give it allows all sorts of contingency plans to be put in place. Yes it causes disruption and impacts customers that's why I still expect/hope it can be resolved. I have been involved in National strikes and it's never helpful. There appears only to be a handful on here who have actual experience of major IA their views may help.
