PCR tests not currently at least set up to provide you with a code that can be used on a PLF - HMG unlikely to change the rules for potentially a short term requirement. I believe we are required to have both as I say, at least for now.
Ok BB, your right, its not set out yet as far as I know. I just don't see why they would make you take both tests at travellers cost.
I could be wrong, we will need to return to this when it becomes clear. I have been checking online for PCR return tests and the suppliers have not updated yet.
PCR are the only thing that can identify a particular strain which is now useful for HMG to know, LFT simply identify Covid - I do not make the rules but like you I just have to follow them.
Obv you will get a code for your passenger locator form that relates to a pcr test. They need PCR to track the new variant. Listen I have bought a LFT for travel returning 19 Dec, so I feel I have lost that cash on a wasted test.
I don’t pretend to understand the logic used by HMG I simply know that, at the moment at least, you are required to have the LFT booked before you can even get on a plane to return home and now it would appear that you also must get a PCR test when you are home. If you have seen anything that specifically counters this then please point me in that direction.
Big bangs are you suggesting that the UK gov is telling folk to get both tests............. have a wee think before you answer. Cause what would be the point of taking and paying for a LFT if you are paying 3-4 times the cost for a PCR.
You still need to have booked a LFT in order to complete your Passenger Locator Form to return to the Uk, as I read it you will just also need a PCR test upon your return as a matter of course to exit isolation, news still developing so things might change.
Today the BBC were going on about a return to PCR as lft's couldn't be trusted to obtain accurate results...... I wish someone would explain to them that the UK government seem to be in bed with the Chinese when it comes to UK lfts's and the future of British diagnotics companies
Lateral flow test now ditched for incoming travellers, all now to get a PCR test. So that cancels out that market for now, no doubt other countries will follow. Been a bad week here and I think it has just got worse.
