I do like the idea of a G20 of health. That sounds constructive. Would need actual power obviously.
We wont know until the Virus is out of the way and the final death count is totted up, either way I'm not sure the current narrative will allow this to be completely brushed under the carpet. I think there will be consequences for China, whether they'll be extreme will depend on the US reaction. The US death count could shape the economic kick back at the end of this.
Again it sounds like bluster and blame game.
Conspiracy theories wherever they are are immensely dumb but using the fact they tried to start one to attack China won't go anywhere because the current epicenter of conspiracy theories is western populists egged on by Russian pranksters. Talk about people in glass houses.
I can't see UK politicians taking action specifically because the UK has no leverage at all with China. We need them more than they need us. Maybe they will try to ban Hauwei again which would be a massive own goal in terms of cost and delay to 5G and completely unessesarry due to one thing - encryption.
There's no doubt certain elements want to bash Beijing but no scientific organisations agree. I hope the experts would win this one. Pandemics don't know borders. Even if Australia or the UK go into a cold war with China it only takes one person to spread germs. Are these people saying we will never allow any travel with China or allow in anyone who has recently been there? I just can't see it. I would hope sensible actions are taken in China address specific problems. They definitely need to be more transparent (Trump not defunding the CDC offices in China might have helped as well). More difficult, they need to try to restructure how food is delivered to stop the trade in wild animals for food. It is worth noting that since the early problems China's response has been very good. There's a lot we can learn from it. Although If I was Chinese I would be very fearful of the extra survieliance they've put in place. I'd be very fearful of the surveillance they already had in place!
" It seems that there was at least a regional attempt inside China to cover up the early days of the epidemic. I expect Xi will hang officials in Wuhan out to dry and put policies in place to promote transparency on emerging diseases."
It most definitely wasn't a regional cover up, it went right to the top of the MFA and CCP according to articles i've read.
"By March 12, Beijing launched its most bombastic tactic yet: blaming the United States directly for the coronavirus outbreak. To be sure, conspiracies of U.S. plans to undermine China are a regular feature of the Chinese internet. But this time the MFA itself was the source. Zhao unleashed a tweet storm accusing the U.S. Army of bringing the virus to Wuhan in October."

"15 senior Tories wrote to Boris to demand a 'rethink' in relations with Beijing
The world's leading economies have been hit by a £3.2 trillion bill since outbreak
Study suggests this could have been avoided if China had been more honest"

"Using the virus to bash Beijing could trigger a new cold war"
"But once the immediate crisis passes, hostilities seem likely to resume. And loud demands in Washington for a fundamental post-pandemic reappraisal of relations find a ready echo in Westminster."

I would say that the global kick back may subdued at the moment, but there's smoke and where there's smoke there could be fire. Once the pandemic is under control and the damage assessed, i wouldn't be surprised to see big changes in China's Global relationships.
That all seems ridiculous to me and more about politicians trying to deflect from failings in their local responses. Can't see it going anywhere. More interested in what lessons China learns. It seems that there was at least a regional attempt inside China to cover up the early days of the epidemic. I expect Xi will hang officials in Wuhan out to dry and put policies in place to promote transparency on emerging diseases.
"Senior MPs said China must reap economic consequences due to coronavirus
One MP blamed the communist country for COVID-19 which killed thousands
Calls for Australia to reassess its relationship with China after the pandemic
MPs called for investigation into virus and how it left China and infected world
Australia currently has 5,550 positive coronavirus cases with a total of 30 dead "

"Generally countries like China have sovereign immunity and governments cannot be brought to regular courts or held liable regardless of their conduct," Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, an Israel-based lawyer specializing in litigating terrorist regimes told the news outlet. "However, an argument could be made that just like support for terrorism, which is legally actionable, a government that engages in such reckless disregard and negligence and covers up an epidemic that has the potential to spread worldwide could be held legally liable."
I've been thinking of buying HSBC for my ISA, next week, but starting to have serious misgivings. What's worrying me is a potential worldwide economic backlash against China, once the Virus is out of the way and the final death toll is totted up.
The blame game hasn't really started yet, but as in all disasters a day of reckoning will take place and every part of the crisis will be forensically analysed and western politicians are going to deflect any response criticism back at the Chinese as the source of the virus. Some stories are already circulating about China faking stats, under reporting deaths and generally withholding information that would have altered the scale of western responses to the virus.
Do any other posters see this as a risk to companies heavily invested in China?
