Your analogy is like Lils seaweed pants full of holes and fishy !
Where I work we have to pay everyone employed the same bonus if they do the same job on the same rate of pay Including agency workers.
It’s called fairness and equality!
Can you imagine the up roar if we didn’t.
You Kira sound like a fence sitter, you’d complain either way if it didn’t suit you!
Over and out.
Ok Ian spelled it out yesterday.. The " dividend" could just as easily be termed sale price! Its a sale to all intents and purposes so called it a sale price and maybe people can stop tilting at windmills ?? The rules are the rules and tis what it is etc... Just like pleading ignorance of the law in court no amount of semantics or philosophical debate is going to change them nor make a jot of difference. Fred bloooody west can get paid for all i care as long as i do :) and breathe....
I get your point Kira, but that wouldn't make sense. In your method, what would you do for people who sold out 6 months ago but had been in for 20 years? They need a cut surely?
You get in early on a share, you get a better price, thats your long term holder benefit
I’d be rather happy to call OldSpursFans informative post at 07:52 the conclusion of this thread as it would seem we are about to go start the whole annoying debate again.
Chillout, move on
Personally I put this individual in the bin in company of the bots, totally self obsessed and clogs up the board with bull****e.
I have been here years an have a low average, hence more shares SO OF COURSE I wWILL RECIEVE MORE OF A DIVI!
However anyone taking the plunge now fully deserves a divi as does a LTH.
There will not be different classes of dividend, it will be the same for everyone.
And the important date to note is the EX Dividend date as if you sell any shares before this date you will NOT get the divi. So say they make a formal announcement and the ex divi date is the end of May, if you sell 50000 shares BEFORE then you will NOT get the divi, but the share price should be higher to reflect that the people buying the shares would receive the divi.
Sorry if this had already been extensively covered, haven't had time to go through all posts!
Bit of a daft question that Kira, do you really think there would be a way of selling your shares at roughly dividend price, still get paid the dividend and then buy back cheap at a lower rate?
If that was the case what would be the point in research and trying to plan your investments as best as you can? You would just wait for company dividend dates, buy, qualify and sell...doesn't work like that although would be easy!
absolutely not! welcome on board mightyeagle
Sorry to join in on this, but everyone who’s invested in this company should get the same divi. Can you imagine how difficult it would make paying it out. What if the national lottery had to pay out prize money dependent on when you bought your ticket. You’re either in or out, you get a divi or you don’t.
ATB, Pete
You can sell on ex-div date & will still get the dividend kira.
I find it bizarre you continue this subject today, I don’t feel like an inferior shareholder to you because I bought In yesterday! Why should you be rewarded for investing earlier that me? We are now both share holders entitled to the same, whatever that might be? We all just have to live with it. GLA
Differing divi for differing share classes is a very obscue point, and not relevant here. So why mention it. aside of trying to incite .
You can sell asap after opening on ex-div day. Record date is an internal company procedure.
Share price will immediately re-rate to reflect the dividend at point of ex-div, so zero advantage as to when you sell, aside of possible tax treatment which depends upon personal circumstances.
So Kira, no offence meant, but the bottom line is that you fuelled the idea of the possibility of 'ordinary p.i's getting paid more due to longevity of holding.
Like I said, no offence meant, but I read the posts and thought that an intelligent lady such as yourself would realise ordinary share holders get an ordinary share holders divi and nothing more.
Have a nice day!
Morning Kira, I'll try!
So when the BoD announce what they recommended selling and for how much, the SP should reflect it. If its partial sale with dividen proposed, then any potential dividend element will be included in the new share price. You can buy and sell as you wish as this rerated price, but if you sell out completely you wont get the dividend.
Next the BoD have to agree how much of the cash, when received, to pay out as dividend, which rewards shareholders without leaving the company and its remaining assets short of money. This will be announced along with the record date (date the share register will be reviewed to identify share holders/ nominees) and ex div date. If these dates are in the future, you can still trade at the rerated SP.
Record and ex div dates wont be far apart (may be one day, but outside market hours). If you are holding at the record date, you are eligible to receive the dividend amount for every share you hold.
On the ex div date the dividend element gets removed from the share price on open. You can trade at the reduced SP and still get your dividend in due course. Any buyers on the ex div date will not receive a dividend on their purchase. It may take a few days, but the dividend will arrive via your broker as cash or reinvested shares depending on your preference.
Does this help?
I think your best bet is to give your broker a call whenever the RNS is released and ask them. Then you’re not relying on a forum. I’ve called my broker many times about divi and have always got good information from them.
Hope this helps.
Sometimes reading between the lines is just as helpful .............
Lol.
Why does this person make me think of Lydia from Breaking Bad?
