If you want to see the colour and clarity then have a look at the montage on twitter.
Clear Gem-quality diamonds plus a coloured one. All this from 58 Tones of scrapings from the top surface. Not a bad start with 50 CTHT being a bonus. As JC says
"The kimberlite grade is aligned with those achieved at Klipspringer mine and Thorny River, which are both nearby, indicating the considerable extent of the kimberlite dyke system."
Morning TBTT - personaly think JC could have commented on colour and clarity based on his experience but would have had to stop short of indicating value before appraisal of gem quality or not.
Though the tailings would be low hanging fruit, the partnership splits would suggest a low ascribed value to BOD in my mind based on those grades - admittedly at no cost
Hi Pecten!
I don't think JC is allowed to comment on colour or clarity in an RNS without the stones being independently appraised.
It might be worth watching the BOD twitter feed, because there is nothing to stop him putting up a couple of pictures. Given the premium for coloured stones, it would be nice to see a couple of fancy yellows in the mix.
I'm no expert, but I make it that the tailings should be worth reprocessing at those grades, and the dyke material should be highly commercial.
There are still results to be announced. E.g.: I believe that we haven't yet had the results of the analysis of the drill cores, which we know hit M1 (i.e. Marsfontein!) kimberlite. And there is still a lot of work to be done on site.
But all good for now.
Not sure if links to tweets are allowed on here but it's very interesting to see the latest photo (the 'collage') of the Mars project on BOD's twitter page. It repeats the colourful stones already posted but centre right is a new one - a bowl in which there is an orange gem amongst the other diamonds. THAT is extremely significant and encouraging!
Hi Pecten - i suspect that the relatively small size of the sample means that commenting on colour/clarity might be a bit premature at this stage - especially given JC's generally cautious nature (I'd personally prefer to hear it from the results of the next stage when it will be much more conclusive). Roll on stage 2 lockdown in RSA so they can get back on the case! (I gather that should be pretty soon now).
Perro I agree wrt to the potential of the Klipspringer-Thorny-Mars 'dyke-belt' but am veeey surprised and a little disappointed that JC hasn't included any comment with regards to colour or clarity which would be very valuable indicators of value
Explains the recent big late buys...
Hi Clockman I don't profess to be any sort of diamond expert but I have done quite a bit of research etc, and in my view this news is a very significant positive step. Although it was only a relatively small sample size but even from the grades are high compared to other kimberlites and sufficient to justify moving on to the next phase (which I gather are funded). It also adds to the whole bigger picture of the Klipspringer-Thorny-Mars 'dyke belt' which is starting to look potentially huge. Also, South African lockdown is gradually easing so they should be able to get back up there before long now.
Commercially viable diamond mine ££££
Isn't it something like 10 to be commercially viable?
50 CTHT is a fantastic result.
I am a novice investor in diamond exploration. While recovery of 111 diamonds sounds like success I cant calibrate the significance or scale of these results. Is this news that we should treat as mildly encouraging or a run away success. Some thoughts on this would be very useful
