Good post warrantwatcher.
Regarding your points:
1. I have only heard positive comments about the tech from the company - that BIDS was swapped into a process because rival tech didn't meet standards. Linked to the product competitiveness, they were the first multi-device in-game advertising platform to be awarded IAB Gold standard. Would be good to hear from people closer to developers regarding the BIDS tech versus rivals .
2. Market demand IS soft at the moment - whatever gaming industry snake-oil salesman tell you. For all the talk about the shift to online and reaching a hard-to-reach consumer group, virtually all advertising budgets are under pressure and they fell c.30% in the first half in much of the western world. Most media buying plans don't have the margin or error to try out new media right now - especially in the awareness driving media space in which BIDS operates (justifying budget for performance driven media is a different matter). Don't assume because IGA is programmatic it is performance based - it's not. You don't stop a game to click on an ad and engage with a brand/product.
3. JD has taken this company a long way and what he has achieved is considerable. He has assembled a good team and strong advisors. His lower profile is a welcome sign in my view, though lack of news leads us to think progress is slow. Whether he is able to secure the deals and execute in-market is the biggest question. Atamar Benedy is a very impressive operator and has very sound computer/tech skills. Like JD, he is also heavily incentivised to win. He also benefits from good advice. Is JD the right person to lead BIDS? The next few months will tell.
I have some doubts to but you must understand the games industry...all news has said that the new consols will be the money makers, you realise these consols are due to be out before Christmas but we still have no date or price for either!?
The nature of the industry is late news beacsue of the luxury of late application.
If you think we know little about the two new consols we know even less about the new titles, even though some are to be released on ps4 and then later ps5.
I will wait until the new year to pass judgement
Seems to have scuttled back into a hole with no connectivity to the outside world.
I find this company very odd, as in theory it should be doing well in the space it operates in as well as the current climate and change in ' normality ' however it would appear they are unable to close a deal. Is this because the tech doesn't work as promised, the individuals aren't able to close a deal, or that the demand isn't really there ? For balance you would have to say that resigning the games that we have such as FM means that it does work for them, however there's yet to be any significant commercial benefit to BIDS - why is this ? ?
The reason I am maintaining my holding is that clearly JD is a selfish man and still holds a considerable amount of stock so will want to get some return on that, as well as Herald taking the 6% that they did, and they have a solid history of performance.
The challenge that they face is to close something that brings in revenues this year or it is then 2 years that JD has missed the target as well as mislead expectations through the year.
I am beginning to think that JD is not the right person to take the business forward and it's time for him to step aside
