They are endeavouring to keep multiple transactions within a tight range in order NOT! to increase the SP.
The desired result is to buy as cheaply as possible which is of course meaning more shares bought for the same outlay. Better for shareholders once completed but of course pretty dull in the meanwhile.
Very strange that the share price is staying so low even with the buyback progressing daily......?
I have some crypto in my investments, have done for years, mined a lot of ETH back in the day....but I digress.
There is an old saying about "eggs and baskets" which I apply when considering Crypto such as Bitcoin and as there are no fundamentals to them, there is a huge risk of bubble burst in the future, so I am not going to bet my pension pot on it!
Casual.... , I would NOT be happy with a paltry dividend growth of 1-2% unless you mean in real terms after inflation. Especially after we had the dividend SLASHED by about a third!
Not in the Companies interest for an increase in the SP while they are involved in buyback.
They bought more last days while the SP was lower. The less stock out there the fewer to share dividend with.
Aviva share price range seems to average around 400 now + _ 10 .I don't think we will see much of a different range even with buybacks. This is a hold for dividend share
Buybacks with share cancellation reduce the number of shares in issue, when it comes to dividends, there are fewer shares in issue, so the payment is split across fewer shares which ultimately means more for each shareholder, it may only be a fraction of a percent, but it all adds up - going forwards if the dividend yield grows 1%-2% per year I would be very happy!
The share buyback is better for long term holders than traders, Aviva ideally wants to keep their share price stable and pay good dividends, which attracts long term investors rather than traders!
Buybacks with cancellation will only change the share price significantly if there is scarcity, which we don't have here.
The buyback tells me they are not expecting to have anything exciting to tell the market for a while so all the buyback is doing for us just now is stabilising the price in a range. This is not bad for us, but doesn't improve the upside in the short term.
Bought quite a large slice this morning with profits from elsewhere - when one sp has gone up, sell and buy one that's down. Sometimes it works.
The theory of buybacks is good, but in my experience it never seems to provide a positive outcome for some reason (though of course you don't know what the price would have been without it) it always seems that the price is driven more by sentiment and fashion at the time rather than fundamentals. Difficult to see why the price has dropped again.
Buy backs at this price are a great idea. Long may it continue.
750M buyback over 6 months.
I hope the next one is 1.5B over 12 months
not a market expert here but why a downtrend during a buy back ?? zero danger to have hart attacks by owning this stock for sure :-(
and then cancelling them a good idea.??
AB seems to think so:-
"Buying back our shares will........................ create additional value for our shareholders.................."
Oh- really?? The buyback commenced 16th August when the SP stood at 420. 'Nuff said.
