When a hedgefund closes a short position the mm will know about this. They need to walk the sp down to square their books. Blackrock closed in September by buying around 68/69p. The mm walked the sp down, spooking investors into selling at around an average of 55p. The mm then delivers the stock to Blackrock, and they in turn return the stock to the stock lender - both the mm and the hedgefund making a nice profit in the process. Pretty sure that's the way it works but open to correction.

Don't worry about that Jed me old fruit, because that's not going to happen. Was you worried that Jeremy was going to nationalise the fourth emergency service! Jeremy will be resigning Friday morning hopefully!
Nice rise today. Did hit 50p last month and then dropped back down. Shorters were over 9 per cent at one point, just over 6 per cent now. Will be watching this one carefully.
"The SP then went up from about 60p to 76p and then fell right back down to 41p ish and who knows why.!!!!"
- It was because of the General insurance pricing practices Interim Report by FCA. This report sets out the worst-case scenarios and it would be damaging to The AA and all insurance companies, however, expect something in the middle next year that *could* send the share price back to 150p levels or back down to these levels. I am a buyer at 55-60p levels with a 12-14 month view.
Corbin won't get in. BoJo will get a majority, IMO - albeit a slim one. The market should react positively to the perceived stability of that outcome. AA's long-term prospects should improve from here on in.
They put out a trading up-date before the last results saying the same thing ,and blow me down the results showed just that and all according to plan.
The SP then went up from about 60p to 76p and then fell right back down to 41p ish and who knows why.!!!!
Is this time ant different ap[art from the fact that they are now talking about paying down debt / bonds, now that should get the SP going even higher than last time.
But what happens on Friday if Corbin gets in ??????? back to 41p.
