Ryanair in talks with Boeing on 737 Max compensation

https://www.independent.ie/business/irish/ryanair-in-talks-with-boeing-on-737-max-compensation-38131423.html

Shares in Ryanair tumbled more than 5.3pc in early trading, even as it announced a €700m share buyback.

"The shares are very lowly priced," said Mr O'Leary. They're down more than a third in the past year.

"This is not a time when anybody else should be buying shares," he said.

"I would ask you to wait until we've completed our share buyback before you start placing your orders."

Has cut their 2020 RYA earnings forecast by 9%, I don't have the exact numbers.

RE: I think if RYA are struggling

I was hoping for some comment in the FT Markets live, but did not get
a mention. Perhaps tomorrow.

Comment from the FT company section appears to be ...RyanAir is intent
on winning any fares price war and intends to continue to grow as quickly as possible.
Short/medium term pain, for longer term gain.

Ultimately it's going to take further airline failures for that strategy to pay off.

mr o deary os a bit of a brexit doom monger though to be fair, hes been vocal against it from the off so 8 suspect he can see further than he is saying and there is a politicsl angle to his zero visibility comments.

On the plus side..

Another buy back steadily reducing the share count.

And the Max situation may hopefully be temporary.

Medium term outlook change
20 May '19
It's quite a big change on expectations, to the downside.

Up to late last year Michael was optimistic about higher profitability
in 2020/21 - this did Not constitute official RYA guidance, just informal
comments made by Michael.

Now today we have - 0 visibility on H2, and profitability may take a dent
for a year or two given continuing European overcapacity.

Now whether that's already about in the SP .... (I can't call)

It may also be worth noting that what little guidance on 2020 is given,
appears to assume the UK leaves the EU With a deal.

A No deal Brexit is Not factored in to today's comments.

"zero visibility" for the 2nd half of this year and share buybacks to prop up the SP ... worrying.

I must have a look in detail but 1BillEuro for the year not too bad! Hopefully Lauda will be sorted by next year and those max`s will be taking their place in the fleet.

Outlook
20 May '19
Is what the market may not like.
Prior to these results consensus looked for a (very approx) 10% increase
on pre tax for the coming year.

2020 estimates may need a significant scaling back if I am reading that correctly?.

On the flip side the buy back still, sounding positive on the Max.

well much as I like easy jet as an airline, RYA has the superior low cost business model imo.No room for sentiment in investment.Looks like there is some clarity in the Max 8 situation.Sadly the situation could have been avoided if senior pilot critique had been listened to. The addition to the RYA fleet of MAX`s is a big part of future low cost strategy.
We await oil peaking,Wreckxit finishing, and financials.. Fingers crossed.

saw your post on GLEN. Thats a poor show.maybe as you say get a transfer or bite the bullet and find the best furking specialist in London and pay the price.Cannot put a price on future health pal.Wish you well.
I see it`s gone quiet on EZJ.Down a long way today with everything else in the sector recovering a bit.I`d be tempted to buy EZJ but funds tied up.Not sure why it`s getting a hammering?

I was repairing the long wall next door thats falling apart yesterday when the "trace" team turned up yesterday.Kier boys .nice lads but the sophisticated equipment was a young lad with a 5foot steel pole with a wooden handle /earpiece on it! Worked mind you.I showed him my pipe in the garden and he confirmed it was live!Thank goodness I didn't cut it or build over it. He said SW water might put a stop cock in the garden or me!!! That round cover would seem to be my cut off point although we did not open it.The other lad said hit it with a hammer....and I related your story of someone losing an eye...He went quiet, lol.
Next door it would appear the rising main comes in the back!!!! He has marked with yellow paint a square foot of concrete just outside the back door. They will make an appointment to dig it out and fit a meter ASAP.So progress.
Thanks for your input in this charade ,without your advice I might have a permanent Artesian well in the back garden!

Keep your chin up pal.You have my number..

Many CEO's destroy value..
14 May '19
Michael's record is far better than the vast majority.
He's arguably created huge value over the years.

Look at the last VOD CEO, lauded in an FT last year on
stepping down from the top job. During his time at VOD he
was paid a lottery win type compensation.
And for what?.

I warned repeatedly on the VOD board last year at over £2 a share,
sadly not all my stock views are that prescient!.
