Stock Exchange Electronic Trading System

Definition of 'Stock Exchange Electronic Trading System'

An electronic order book-based trading system for the London Stock Exchange. Brokers input buy and sell orders directly into the system. Buyers and sellers are matched and the trade executed automatically. In 1997 the system was used for the 100 largest UK shares and the Stock Exchange plans to increase the number of shares on SETS - eventually SEAQ might be completely replaced.
