CQC upgrades Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital to 'Good'

· Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital has received a 'Good' overall rating from the CQC following inspection in September 2018

· Follows Spire Nottingham Hospital's upgrade to 'Outstanding' by the CQC in June

· Upgrade increases proportion of Spire Healthcare's portfolio rated 'Good'/'Outstanding' to 76% compared to 67% a year ago

· Significant step towards achieving Spire Healthcare's strategic priority of 100% 'Good' or 'Outstanding' ratings

Spire Healthcare Group plc (LSE: SPI), a leading UK independent hospital group, is pleased to announce its Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital has been awarded an overall 'Good' rating following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission in September 2018.

CQC inspectors carried out an unannounced comprehensive examination of services at Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital and determined the hospital had earned an overall rating of 'Good'. The hospital received 'Good' in all five categories assessed, which ask whether services are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

A central part of Spire Healthcare's five year strategy presented to investors in April 2018 is to achieve 100% 'Good' or 'Outstanding' CQC ratings across its entire estate.

Earlier this year, the £60m Spire Nottingham Hospital was upgraded from 'Good' to 'Outstanding' by the CQC. Inspectors collected patient feedback on the quality of care and responses were "unfailingly positive."

Justin Ash, Chief Executive at Spire Healthcare, commented: "We firmly believe that a focus on quality is critical in terms of what we deliver to patients and now more than three quarters of our sites are rated as Good' or 'Outstanding'. Following Spire Nottingham Hospital's 'Outstanding' rating in June, this is another positive step towards our target of ensuring 100% of our hospitals have a 'Good' or 'Outstanding' rating by 2022. This was the first Spire hospital to experience the new CQC approach of unannounced visits which is further testament to the work by colleagues at this site.

"I want to thank all the staff at Spire Hull & East Riding Hospital for their incredible hard work and passionate commitment to achieving clinical quality. Their tireless dedication to their patients is what makes Spire great and I have no doubt they will continue taking the steps needed for further progress."
