O2 is expanding the coverage of 3G technology

O2 is expanding the coverage of 3G technology (also known as UMTS/HSDPA). At present, it is the only Czech operator offering the opportunity to enjoy the richest iPhone 3G experience thanks to 3G coverage in Prague and Brno.
UMTS/HSDPA is the technology on which third-generation (hence 3G) mobile phone networks are based, enabling data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbit/s. Within two years, this speed is expected to increase to up to 7.2 Mbit/s. This technology enables users to benefit from new mobile services - from information and reservation systems to video telephony.
O2 is the only Czech operator with 3G coverage. By the end of 2009, it will have expanded its signal to another 20 to 30 towns in the Czech Republic. Residents of Ostrava and Plzeň are among those who can look forward to expanded coverage in the first quarter of next year.
Over the next two to three years, O2 is planning coverage for over 70% of the population of the Czech Republic.
