Political events in Mali

African Mining & Exploration plc (AME), the AIM listed mining company focusing on exploration in West Africa, notes the current political unrest in Mali, where it appears that certain elements of the army have staged a coup attempt.

AME understands that a curfew has been imposed in the capital, Bamako, however the current situation in the capital is calm and all AME staff and assets are safe.

There has been no word from the Malian Government and the exact details of the situation remain unclear. In previous changes of government Mali has always respected the law, and Mali and its people have benefitted significantly as a result. Accordingly the Company expects subsequent governments to maintain this position.

This emerging situation has caused a delay in the deployment of the new drilling equipment, currently in Bamako, which was scheduled to commence operations at our Karan permit today. Clearly to ensure both staff and assets are protected, AME will only commence drilling when the security situation improves.

AME will make a subsequent announcement to the market at that point, with a detailed operational update.
