Launch of PhytopicaĀ® inĀ Hong Kong
GODMANCHESTER, Cambridgeshire, U.K. (11 June 2008) - Phytopharm plc (PYM: London Stock Exchange) ("Phytopharm" or the "Company")Ā announces todayĀ the launch of PhytopicaĀ® in Hong Kong by its partner,Ā Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health.
In January 2006, Phytopharm entered into an exclusive global agreement with Schering-PloughĀ Animal HealthĀ for the Company's canine skin health product, PhytopicaĀ®. Under the terms of the agreement, Phytopharm is responsible for manufacturing PhytopicaĀ® whilst Schering-PloughĀ Animal HealthĀ is responsible for the global sales, marketing and distribution of PhytopicaĀ®. In April 2006, Schering-PloughĀ Animal Health launchedĀ PhytopicaĀ® in theĀ UKĀ followed by launches inĀ ItalyĀ andĀ FranceĀ in March and April 2007. The product has enjoyed firm support from veterinary dermatologists and recorded strong salesĀ growth.
PhytopicaĀ® is effective in the management of canine skin health by providing a novel 3 in 1 approach to help maintain a normal healthy immune system, support normal white cell function and provide anti-oxidant benefits. The beneficial effects and excellent safety profile of PhytopicaĀ® have been proven extensively in clinical trials and the product has been found to be suitable for all dogs whatever size or breed.Ā Ā
In November 2007, Schering-Plough completed the acquisition ofĀ Organon BioSciences N.VĀ which included theĀ animal health business,Ā Intervet. The enlarged animal health business is now operating asĀ Intervet/Schering-PloughĀ Animal Health.Ā Following theĀ Hong KongĀ launch, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health will seek to market and distribute PhytopicaĀ® in further countries.
Canine dermatological disorders are recognised by veterinarians to be a major problem in small animal practice, with an estimated 15-30% of the global dog population affected by skin conditions (Muller & Kirk's Small Animal Dermatology, 6th Ed, 2000).
