Dublin/London- 4 November 2008­­­:  Independent News & Media PLC ("INM") today announces the resignation of Mr Brendan Hopkins as a Director of INM. Mr Hopkins resignation follows INM's decision to conduct a strategic review of its shareholding in APN News & Media Limited ("APN"), of which he is Chief Executive.

Pending the outcome of this review, Mr Hopkins said he was mindful that APN and its shareholders would require his singular focus at this critical juncture and that his resignation from the board of INM is appropriate in these circumstances.

The Board fully accepts and understands Mr Hopkins' decision which is effective from 31 October 2008.
