OxfordΒ Advanced Surfaces Group PLC (the 'Company')
Business Update and new Development Agreement signed
Oxford Advanced Surfaces Group plc announces the signing of its first development agreement in the biomedical sector. The group has been engaged by aΒ European technology innovator working on novel medical devices in the field of gastroenterology.Β
TheΒ Company is building aΒ development portfolioΒ across a broad range of applications and sectors, primarily through JointΒ Development AgreementsΒ ("JDAs")Β with leading players inΒ a variety ofΒ markets butΒ also advancing some in-house proofsΒ of concept inΒ selected applications.Β EachΒ ofΒ theseΒ projects, if they reach the market and are commercially successful, wouldΒ representΒ aΒ significant revenue and profitΒ opportunity forΒ both the customer and the Company.
Β
With this new project we areΒ nowΒ actively engagedΒ inΒ elevenΒ specificΒ developmentΒ programmes.Β EightΒ of theseΒ areΒ in sectorsΒ suchΒ asΒ industrialΒ materials, consumer goods, electronicsΒ and now biomedical. AΒ furtherΒ three areΒ in-house development applications of the Ontoβ’ technology for use in photovoltaicΒ devicesΒ and solid state lighting. AllΒ of these programmes are in Stage 1 (Development of Materials). Whilst we expect a number of these projects to progress to Stage 2 (Process Development & Manufacturing Trials) some attrition will naturally occur.Β
In addition we have aΒ substantialΒ pipeline of opportunitiesΒ awaiting Initial Assessment or Proof of Concept ("PoC"). Many ofΒ these companiesΒ are globalΒ leadersΒ in growthΒ areas suchΒ as advancedΒ materials, photovoltaics, solid state lightingΒ andΒ biomedicalΒ devices. OurΒ immediateΒ aim is to build and maintain a portfolio of 15-20Β activeΒ projects at any point in timeΒ and toΒ begin toΒ advanceΒ one or twoΒ projects toΒ Stage 2 in 2009. We are well on our wayΒ toΒ achieving this goal.
The company is also involved inΒ a number ofΒ collaborative or grant funded programmes. Currently, theΒ Company is participating in a collaborativeΒ research and development project withΒ theΒ UniversityΒ ofΒ ManchesterΒ and the Centre for Process InnovationΒ in theΒ field of plastic electronics,Β sponsoring a Knowledge Transfer PartnershipΒ in photovoltaicsΒ with The University of Oxford, and hasΒ just been awardedΒ a grant from the Carbon Trust toΒ developΒ applications in solid state lighting.
Marcelo Bravo, Chief Executive of Oxford Advances Surfaces Group plc, said:
"I am delightedΒ to announce our first engagementΒ into the biomedical devices market. This market has great potential for us from general applications of the Ontoβ’Β technology through to specialisedΒ biological coatings and biofilm and infection control."
