SANTA CLARITA, Calif., MarchĀ 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ --Ā In proactive response to the unpredictable circumstances evolving from the global spread of COVID-19Ā and in an abundance of caution, Princess CruisesĀ announced that it willĀ voluntarilyĀ pause global operations ofĀ itsĀ 18 cruise ships for two months (60Ā days), impacting voyages departing March 12 to May 10.
"Princess Cruises is a global vacation company that serves more than 50,000 guests daily from 70 countries asĀ partĀ of our diverseĀ business,Ā andĀ it is widely known thatĀ weĀ haveĀ been managingĀ the implications ofĀ COVID-19Ā on two continents," said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.Ā "By taking this bold actionĀ ofĀ voluntarilyĀ pausing the operations of our ships, it is our intention to reassure our loyal guests, team members and global stakeholders of our commitment to the health, safety and well-being of all who sail with us, as well as those who do business with us, and the countries and communities we visit around the world,"Ā added Swartz.Ā
Those currently onboard a cruise that will end in the nextĀ fiveĀ days will continue to sail as expected through the end of theĀ itineraryĀ so that onward travel arrangementsĀ are not disrupted. Current voyages that are underway and extend beyondĀ March 17Ā will be ended at the most convenient location for guests,Ā factoringĀ inĀ operational requirements.Ā PrincessĀ will do everythingĀ possibleĀ to return each guest home with the greatest amount of care possible.Ā During this time,Ā ourĀ operations andĀ medicalĀ teams across the fleet will remain vigilant in their care and service for guests and crew onboard.Ā
ForĀ thoseĀ who areĀ impacted by this business decision,Ā Princess is offeringĀ guests the opportunity toĀ transferĀ 100% ofĀ the moneyĀ paidĀ for their cancelled cruiseĀ toĀ aĀ future cruise ofĀ theirĀ choice.Ā ToĀ add a bonusĀ incentive forĀ guests to accept this offer, the companyĀ will addĀ an additionalĀ generousĀ future cruise creditĀ benefitĀ which can be applied to the cruise fare or onboard expenses.Ā In addition, Princess will honor this offerĀ for thoseĀ guests who had made final payment and cancelled theirĀ bookingĀ onĀ or afterĀ February 4,Ā 2020.Ā TheĀ future cruise creditĀ can be used on any voyageĀ departingĀ through May 1, 2022.
PrincessĀ will protectĀ travel advisorĀ commissions on bookingsĀ for cancelled cruisesĀ that wereĀ paid inĀ fullĀ and forĀ theĀ total amountĀ of theĀ future cruiseĀ credits,Ā inĀ recognitionĀ ofĀ theĀ critical roleĀ they play in the cruise line'sĀ business andĀ success.Ā
If theĀ future cruise credit optionĀ does not workĀ for some guests, theyĀ will be able toĀ complete anĀ electronic form on Princess.comĀ toĀ request a cash refund.Ā Princess asks guests not to call the Reservation Call CenterĀ due toĀ the possibility ofĀ high call volumes and the potential of longĀ on-holdĀ wait timesĀ due to this unprecedented action.Ā Guests and their travel advisors will be sent communicationsĀ on how to manage cancellations and desired compensation.Ā Information and instructions for requesting a refund are availableĀ onlineĀ at Princess.comĀ
InĀ a video posted on YouTube, Jan Swartz sharesĀ that "while this is a difficult business decision, we firmly believe it is the right one and is in alignment with our company's core values. Rest assured the long-serving and dedicated professionals at our company will make best use of this time to prepare Princess Cruises' fleet of cruise ships for a successful return to operation to serve our guests by delivering an exceptional vacation experience."Ā
Loyal guests, employees, travel advisorĀ partnersĀ and business partners around the world have asked what they can do support Princess Cruises andĀ itsĀ more than 35,000 team membersĀ in these challenging times.Ā The answer is simple ā book a cruiseĀ with PrincessĀ and bring your family and friends along.
