Internet of Things security patent application granted
PhotonStar LED Group Plc (AIM: PSL, "PhotonStar" or "the Group"), the British designer and manufacturer of smart LED lighting solutions, has received notice from the UK Intellectual Property Office that its application titled Wireless Nodes with Security Key has been granted.
The secure commissioning patent is a critical element of the Halcyon and halcyonPRO2 wireless network technology.
The out-of-band secure commissioning patent is targeted at Internet of Things (IoT) lighting, sensors, actuators and other devices employed particularly in commercial applications where security vulnerabilities at the commissioning stage must be safeguarded.
The commissioning approach provides multiple novel options to securely join wireless devices of different types to a network without the need to be in physical contact or in proximity of the device, while not compromising the network security keys.
The protocol also benefits from its ability to commission devices at any time, even following installation, without the need for special commissioning time windows. This lends itself to commercial installation practices where phased installation and commissioning may take place.
