Carnegie Minerals plc22 February 2008 22 February 2008 Carnegie Minerals Plc ("Carnegie" or the "Company") Charlie Northfield freed on bail - still facing false charges Carnegie Minerals Plc the AIM listed UK resource company (AIM - CME), is pleasedto announce that Charlie Northfield, a mining engineer from Plymouth has beenreleased from Mile 2 prison on bail. The bail deposit of US$450,000 has beensecured by Alan Hopkins, MD of Carnegie Minerals. Charlie is unable to leave the country having had his passport confiscated. Charlie Northfield is still accused of economic crimes, along with his employersBritish mining company Carnegie Minerals and Australian listed Astron. Theallegations are that the Company has been commercially mining Titanium, Iron oreand Uranium from its mineral sands Licence in The Gambia. The Company stronglyrefutes these charges. The Company wants to make clear that a component of mineral sands (Ilmenite, forwhich we are licensed to mine) is Titanium and Iron oxide. We would also like toclarify that trace amounts of uranium occurring in the Gambian mineral sands,are non commercial, as is the case of the trace uranium deposits in most soilsaround the world. The Company has provided to The Gambian Government continuous full disclosurewith each shipment since the start of the project. This included all weights,Independent SGS laboratory results & pricing calculations. SGS is one theworld's leading testing and inspection businesses. Alan Hopkins, MD of Carnegie Minerals said: "We are relieved that we have finally broken through the Gambian bureaucracy andfreed Charlie from the appalling conditions he faced at Mile 2 prison. "The campaign doesn't slow down here as he still faces false charges. We willnot stop until Charlie is able to return to his family with his name cleared andthese ludicrous charges thrown out." Phil Northfield, Charlie's brother said: "I would like to thank everyone who has helped to get Charlie out of jail onbail. This is a huge relief to Charlie and the family. "Charlie is looking forward to putting all this behind him and being able toreturn to his family an innocent man. "The charges put against Charlie and the Company are just bonkers and Charlie ishopeful that the court will see sense and let him leave the country."
