AFC Energy PLC

("AFC Energy" or the "Company")

 International Business Development Manager appointed

Industry veteran Robert S Kelly to spearhead global commercialisation offensive

AFC Energy (AIM: AFC), the industrial fuel cell power company, is pleased to announce that it has appointed Robert S Kelly as International Business Development Manager, effective 6 April 2013. Mr Kelly brings 25 years' international experience within technology-driven markets.

Mr Kelly joins AFC from Air Products and Chemicals Inc where he held the position of business development manager for its hydrogen energy business with a focus on Asia and South America. Prior to that, Mr Kelly held positions of increasing responsibility with subsidiaries of SOHIO and, latterly, BP Chemicals, where he was responsible for its business development in Central and Eastern Europe.

Mr Kelly has been based in the US since 1996, where he became certified in Six Sigma, a globally recognised business strategy for manufacturing. He has managed projects including the construction and timely commissioning of the hydrogen fuelling infrastructure used during the Beijing Olympics and, more recently, a renewable installation in Seoul's World Cup stadium in South Korea.

He is a well-known speaker on the international fuel cell industry circuit and has extensive experience of the hydrogen market in Japan as well as other Asian territories.

Ian Williamson, chief executive of AFC Energy, said: "Robert brings outstanding commercial experience and creditability to our business. He has an extensive range of industry contacts and relationships that will help the Company to penetrate new markets. The fact that we can attract someone of his calibre is a reflection of AFC Energy's exciting prospects and its cutting edge technology and I am confident he will be a valuable asset to the management team."

About AFC Energy

Founded in 2006, AFC Energy plc is re-engineering proven alkaline fuel cell technology to reduce the cost of electricity. Alkaline fuel cells have been used on US and Russian manned space missions for decades to provide electrical power and drinking water. By using modern materials, design tools and manufacturing processes at scale, AFC Energy is developing fuel cells that will compete with conventional technologies such as turbines for electrical power generation. Today, AFC Energy is pursuing opportunities in several sectors where hydrogen is readily available including the chlorine, clean coal and waste-to-energy industries as well as applications for distributed/back-up power.
