Go on to the IG Community page from the Main page and you will see some good daily articles about trading ideas, resistance levels on graphs and general discussion about what is going on in global markets. Drawdowns are simply what percentage you are off either your starting money pot or can be off your peak p&l day ( high watermark). So say you started with £1,000 and invested in stock and fx which made you £200. Then your HW is £1,200. If you then lose £400 on your mark to market your drawdown from HW is £400 and your loss YTD £200 . It's a good way of checking how you are doing each week and keeping disciplined. Don't forget to include all overnight funding and costs associated with your trading.

Given the volatile times you should set up a dummy account and play with paper money until you really have an idea on Margin requirements, drawdowns, risk tolerance ,volatility. I presume you are selling underlying investments before shorting or is this just for speculative trading opportunity?

Good post seeingtom. I use Spread betting accounts also (one of which is IG) but chose to qualify as a professional investor for exactly the reasons you clarify. It's just too expensive otherwise. I would use stop limits to protect any downside as i'm not convinced having retail investor status provides much protection anyway.

Baxter. There are buyers slowly taking paper back. I am one of them. Don't believe your own hype . I will keep buying as we dip. You either believe in the product and prospects or not. It's pretty simple. 2p-14.75 p range and we are back to 3.8p.

2/ Laurence Read spoke well at The Proactive Mining Day on 29th November and reiterated his view of targeting High Grade mining. Lead and Zinc resources are there. Some silver too.
3/ EUZ is presenting tonight at a Turner Pope evening where his talk will open up to more HNW investors.
4/ SP at Bottom end of range. As someone pointed out it was trading at 0.16 not so long ago on optimism. Does Warren Buffett buy the highs on great news and sell the bottom on weaker news?

Yes. I have bought five lots of 500k this morning between 1.7498 and 1.78 and they are all showing as sales. I used to trade this share around and have been out since the recent rebound. The Gold reserves that GGP now hold are starting to look very attractive to any major who wants to increase Reserves on their Balance Sheet. Whereas I used to consider 2.3-2.5 as topside, I am now thinking this share should rerate to 3.5-4p area. GLA.

The THOR warrants expire this week so MTR will receive new shares I believe.

I must admit that i went to that Conference to listen to Ariana, Rockfire, Europa Metals and THOR but was impressed by Mark's pitch so started buying a few shares post meeting. The Nicaraguan political risk is lower than priced in I think and the social spending the BOD are doing is ensuring that the local issues are done in a favourable light (job creation, skills training, wage increases , water supply etc). That spend is expensive but a good long term way of ensuring that local issues are positive. There also aren't many AIM mining stocks where the BOD will aggressively purchase shares where it sees value. I will watch this for a few months with a view to building a larger stake.

JustSay1ng . If you invest in shares for a few months then this isn't for you. Buy the Dow for the EOY trade. This is one for the back burner that should come good in 6-12 months IMO. The resources found are good , the only reservation would be the depth and how costly it might be versus other surface material plays.

David Price spike well at the Mining Conference in London this morning. Gordon Hart Chairman was also present. 7% of shares in issue are held by Directors and Management. Emphasised that they had high potential prospects with shallow mining across many of their sites. He said he couldn't understand why the SP was so low but perhaps investors didn't understand how good the prospects are over ht next few years. 70% of Discovery in the region is done by Junior Firms such as ROCK so it's not usual for the bigger fish to come calling when significant prospects are found. They assume an average Copper price of 7k per t and at that level they think they will have significant profitability potential across their numerous holdings. Their presentation is going on their website. One for the back drawer over the next few years and at an MCAP of only £4.4mm there's plenty of multi bagger opportunities.

Mark Child presented well at the Mining Conference today. He went through the history with the World Bank putting in £5.5mm at 90p, the recent additional big hitter investors and also BOD purchases over the last week. He believes the SP is significantly undervalued and the reason for the sell off was to do with a small Institutional getting out in a thin market. He went over the political risk of doing business in Nicaragua but explained in his monthly trips down there how well he is being received by local politicians, locals and planners. He believes there is a signifiant gold resource with permits already done, and that they will work on increasing reserves , designs and feeder pits over the next few months.

LR spoke well discussing the upgrade changes at BOD level and the new High Grade focus with reduced tonnage in Spain to improve efficiency. He was talking up Metal price forecasts . 2019 continued focus on desktop work, surface work and looking at core samples. Good infrastructure in place. The SP is low but if he had more money they would look at the continuity of the existing Total areas to add resources. He believes he has a very deliverable mine with lead, zinc and silver options and is well placed to deliver physical metal supply into Europe. Scoping study out soon. Then they will talk to partners once they have all the information so my sense is it's not a go it alone proposal.
