My apologies for the mistake. I was thinking that if I sold before close of business on on ex divi day I'd still get the divi payment but of course, I would have had to sell yesterday to retain the divi. In that case, it's held up very well today!
It's been that long since having to think about dividend pay outs....
Happy Easter all.
Sorry to disappoint you guys, but the sp usually falls the day after the ex dividend date. So, we'll have to wait til Tuesday to see what happens..
As you probably know, it usually drops by roughly the same amount as the dividend payout.
Or you can decide to directly reinvest the dividend.
My understanding is that it's an uncrossing trade- not a single trade, just a way of balancing the books at the end of the day.
It's going to be an interesting day tomorrow!
I've just had to spend about 10 minutes trying to buy a tranche here as it kept going to negotiated trade.
Finally managed to get them though.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have the same situation with two accounts, one from way back. I only posted to check that Slimchance knew about ISA's being tax free. Sometimes fairly new posters aren't aware of the situation with the divis.
A nice steady increase here. I also struggle with whether to stay for the divi or not. I guess it depends what your buy in price.
Do you not trade within an Isa? Then there is no tax on dividends.
Thanks for your reply Roydon, and sorry about the confusion.
The banks dropping so low was what got me into this sharedealing lark in the first place. Seems a long time ago now...
I have a wodge stuck in Lloyds in more recent years, but at least there are dividends now. The sp will rise eventually I hope!
Meanwhile I find Kaz good to trade from time to time.
Roydon, not sure whether your post was to me or Oiky - I think it was me, as I had breast cancer and I think Oiky was in good health in 2011. We were both in Lloyds at that time in (still am actually!). The banter on these boards were so good in those days!
Anyway, I'm well and recovered. Can't say the same for my goldfish, who used to feature heavily in the banter...
All the best!
Hi Oiky- Lovely to hear from you! Idon't post very often these days but still read regularly. I hope you and your daughter are well too. We're both well and daughter is following her dancing dream and in the second year of Uni at a well known conservatoire. All the best!
I'm really shocked that one poster can get another poster banned purely on the basis of giving 'unqualified TA advice'! If you don't want to read another poster's view then just filter them. And don't insult the intelligence of other posters on here, even new posters- if anyone is gullible enough to place their faith (and investment choices) on the advice of ANY one poster on a public forum where we are ALL 'unqualified, then that person is probably going to lose their money very quickly anyway. I for one enjoy reading Chartist's posts and don't agree that he should be censored in this way.
Are you sure it wasn't in auction? Having said that, I've been trying to get a sell price, and it's been negotiated orders only for hours. Are other people finding this too, or is my trading platform particularly bad with this?
CXS1- I find that only happens very occasionally- I'd assumed that all the platforms did this at times.
Only 5 a trade with iwebsharedealing, however irregularly you use them. I find them very good and have been using them for about 10 years now.
I use iwebsharedealing and usually receive my dividend payments very promptly (they're cheap to trade with too, only 5 per trade). However no sign of my Glencore divi as yet
Yes, of course! I'd never hold someone on here responsible for any of my trades! They are entirely my own decision. Still good to get other people's views though
Thanks JMO that's very helpful and appreciated. I'll just watch it for now then.
That's encouraging Qzqz..thanks
I ask about BT as I'm holding approx 4000 at 3.17 and not sure whether to buy a load more with a view to bringing down my average, or just continue to hold them and accept that I'm sitting on a loss made a little easier with the dividend.
JMO- Do you have a view on where the bottom may be with BT?
