As i'm pretty heavy in here I thought I'd look at how buybacks are going. Some interesting stuff and a wide range of volumes each week.

May be of little interest to most but maybe some will find it useful.

In summary 150m shares have been bought back for £390m to-date, since mid March. That leaves £210m to be spent over next 6 to 8 weeks. And this is only Tranche 1 (half of the overall value to bought).

What i found particularly interesting is that over the past 4 weeks the buybacks have reduced considerably... yet the share price is still rising . With the volume still to be spent in this 1st tranche the buybacks need to double from recent levels to be ready for tranche 2 . That's quite a lot of demand over the next couple of months.

Whale I'm not quite sure about is whether L&G are committed to spending the full £600 m , or whether some can be held back in the event of a rapidly rising share price IE could they decide this money is now better off spent eksewhere?

Its 80% of my shares (age 2.38) but only 8% of my total investments. I'm quite comfortable with that

LTI - I was just interested if he was doing something similar to me. Ive been in L&G and BP for years, just collecting decent dividends (around £60k in each). During the oil spike i moved 60% of my BP into L&G so now weighted over 80% L&G . That's just my shares... have lots and lots more in Gilts , Bonds and Inv Trusts (i'm now income man nowadays).

Basically I was thinking someone with similar ideas. Yes, he does change his mind a lot but that's his perogative really so I'm not judging . Just interested in opinions really . Maybe to give me some confidence others are doing similar to me. I'm waffling now so will leave it there

You splitting your money between L&G and BP divi-collector? Those are my two holdings funnily enough

So BP (along with Shell) now have a lower valuation than before the war. Can't quite get my head around that as we've just generated multiple billions of extra profit in the last 4 months. Futures aren't that much different to before the war so why the reduced valuations?

Hopefully for BP there will be a much reduced Debt for those additional billions of profit reported early August. Could get interesting by then as long as POO doesn't collapse.

Whatever it is, I suppose we can't really be that suprised by the initial 9% drop. BP has an uncanny ability to constantly shoot itself in the foot. As night follows day

So market is now valuing BP at more or less the pre war price . Wow

Let's hope its a 'personal' issue and not a financial one !

Thanks Meconopsis. Your thoughts are along the lines of my thinking.... although suprised you've sold. Have you found a better return elsewhere or sat in cash waiting for a retreat? I'm staying invested as only really looking for stable income as recently retired (or as stable as you can get).

Rest of my money is going into 5 - 6% subpar gilts and A grade corporate bonds. I've turned very risk averse as you can see ... but happy with an almost guaranteed weighted 6%+ over long term ... with a potential takeover thrown in.

But interested in your thoughts if you think better 'secure' returns elsewhere. Thanks

I'm thinking that our half year results might look poor , but will just be down to the recent accounting changes. If my logic/understanding is correct then due to the fall in gilt prices (increased yield) then this will show as losses on the books (compared to prior periods)? . However as these are kept to maturity there will be no eventual loss and will unwind over future years? If this is a reasonable assumption we have to hope the market doesn't get spooked

Have just been looking at price movement here during 2026. Good to see a move upwards today but only 12% above end Feb (pre war) price when oil around 40% up. Billions extra revenue and profit being produced not reflected in price

Of a bigger suprise is Shell... only up 3% and lost almost all of its post war rise. All a little strange to me that oilies have not had much bigger uplifts
