Updated 6 February 2020
Purpose and scope
The following information is intended for hospital-based healthcare professionals.
As of 5 February 2020, all requests for laboratory testing of individuals that have met the criteria for a possible case of novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease MUST be discussed with the relevant PHE Health Protection Team. This is an absolute requirement for testing at Public Health England (PHE) Colindale to proceed.
Once testing has been agreed, the referring laboratory must email the following information to phe.virology@nhs.net:
patient identifiers (minimum name and date of birth)
contact phone number for results and queries
2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease testing remains centralised at PHE Colindale currently. This may become available in regional PHE Laboratories shortly.
