BIRD now stands where it did in 2014 but with more likelihood of success. The Cloud has come of age and SBS has improved the product so that it takes a preeminent position in the market place. The recruitment of IM has given them a CEO who is world class with a winning strategy. The only thing lacking is consistent wins of significant customers. Partly this is a result of the concentration OEM strategy which even with Tata, Zixi, |Live X and others has only scratched the surface. It means that BIRD is reliant on its partners to push its solution. But there are significant users out there eg the NY News customer which are big enough to have a major impact. Covid19 has transformed this position as customers are forced to innovate to survive. More than most BIRDs product meets the need to cut costs whilst maintaining quality and even offering improvements. So whilst superficially it stands where it did in 2014 in fact it is now at the tipping point to much greater things. If it can win some major customers in the next two months the current share price will look very cheap.

The deals priced at 15.13p are in fact all buys (one of them being mine) so purchase volumes are 11 x sales so far today.

Whisper is an ideal client because it has many opportunities to use BIRD to get video to their customers quicker and more reliably whilst at the same time cutting production costs significantly. They can also easily archive their footage and monetise it in future years. Sony Pictures is apparently one of their shareholders so a good performance here might open another door.

They have been saying that they are in discussions for well over a year. It's wearing thin now. On the bright side if they do announce a win or wins in April the share price should improve quite a bit. If not...

I wonder if they take up credit references? They ought to as part of their normal procedures. Speed to market is important for the customer but speed in getting paid is important for BIRD. Just a thought.

Now that yesterday's excitement is over I've re read the posts by the company and IM. The bit that caught my eye is the reference to the deal being "significant" for BIRD. Does that mean it's significant financially (if so given the rules for issuing an RNS it's just repeating the obvious) or that it lends great credibility to the BIRD offering in the marketplace or something else? I know what a small, medium and large deal is because IM defined those terms over a year ago... but "significant? Could it be a multiple of large? If so it would imply positive cashflow and breakeven in one go with one contract; a significant turning point indeed.
One small itch was scratched again by "Blackbird drives major awareness, engagement and reach for brands in the sports, esports, news, entertainment, enterprise and public sectors. Customers include A+E Networks, IMG, Deltatre, NRL, Peloton, TownNews and the U.S. Department of State." I do see why all but one of these names is mentioned but Peloton is so far outside of the proven successful clients that it suggests a serious lack of judgement by the writer.

One comment that IM made in an interview filmed at the beginning of July was to the effect that AVID had the a very good product but that up to recently it was frequently tied up dealing with things that Blackbird has now demonstrated it can do faster and more cost effectively. He foresaw that Blackbird would be able to push further down the supply chain leaving AVID to do the things it was really good at doing. By implication therefore Blackbird users which also use AVID might switch part of their early stage work to Blackbird freeing up AVID product and giving Blackbird an additional stream of work.

The company now has links with AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud which are the top 3 Cloud players worldwide. It will be on Google's stand at IBC and senior Google people are saying that they expect Blackbird will enable them to do things that they cannot do now so it is a win for both parties. IM is still saying that he expects there will be 7 figure deals. The Player will be launched at IBC.

Add to these the possibility that they will use the show to announce further significant wins or extensions of existing contracts. For example, in a filmed interview at the beginning of July IM said that the A+E win covered only three facilities out of the dozen or more that they are operating worldwide and his hope was that the software would be rolled out in the other sites too.

Before IBC takes place H1 2019 results will be published and there may be some guidance as to how H2 has started.

These building blocks should propel the share price through 10p and higher.
