Pinched from the HZM board but interesting nevertheless...
Battery metals experts at Benchmark recently estimated that at least 384 new graphite, lithium, nickel, and cobalt mines are needed in the next 12 years to feed a 500% increase in global battery demand.
Last week, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) announced a 100GWh Gigafactory expansion in Nevada, which could see it become the largest Western producer of batteries.
Just look at these outrageous and impossible numbers from Benchmark, which emphasise just how metals-hungry these battery plants really are:

Interesting article regarding the lithium industry in Portugal. Apologies if it has been posted before.

Surely Fortune and/or Mihail should be speaking here?

I really think (hope) Portugal are using SAV as a guinea pig to perfect a green mining operation that can be used as a precedent for every other potential Lithium mine in Portugal, how else will they lease the land... They could even be liaising with European groups to establish a European blueprint. I can’t see a few farmers and villagers stopping what will be part of a massive industry for Portugal, and let’s face it, if we don’t push on quick their land could be flooded or toasted on a yearly basis. I’m eternally optimistic ?

Not sure I agree Wolster. Globalisation has taken a knock over the last few years and the world is a much more unstable place now, so I think we’ll start to see more protectionism on the world stage. As was said recently by the president of the ECB “Europe, more than any other major economy, reaped the gains of globalisation in the decades leading up to the pandemic. But now we must sow the seeds for a future in which globalisation becomes a more unpredictable terrain”
The ECB will, IMHO, support its domestic supply chains, particularly with regard to green energy and critical raw materials, which include Lithium, Vanadium & Rare Earth Minerals amongst others.
Agreed Chameleon.
This looks interesting and will hopefully push things along. Dale doing his bit for us in the FT.

Shame I bought 1M yesterday but averaged down a little just now by taking another £13k :)
Can't see a parish of circa 300 people making a blind bit of difference against the will of the government to get this project done.
IMHO
