Ex-div movement11 Jun 2025 09:50
In an efficient market, in theory the price should drop by the dividend amount on the ex-div day, and typically with big liquid stocks which have tons of trading volume and arbitrage players, this often does happen.
However, when prices are really suppressed already, especially with less liquid stocks, the reality is that often too many people expect this strategy to work (and look to buy at the lower, ex-div price), and as a result it doesn't actually pan out that way. On my charts, it looks like this has broken out to the upside already, and I suspect some who were waiting for an ex-div bargain to emerge will end up buying at a higher price....
It's what also happened on Sabre insurance recently. I bought that before the ex-div day, and ended up with both the (great) dividend and a 10% rise.
