To reduce the percentage of coal used by 1% per year will require massive investment and lots of money transfers from 1st world to 2nd and 3rd world. Everyone is broke now. It ain’t going to happen. IMHO
Saying I was confident was probably a bit strong but I think there is a very good chance. No new coal fields being opened but coal provides 38% of the worlds electricity. World electricity usage going up every year. Even if the percentage drops the overall use of coal could still increase.
Strike seems to be over near as dammit, coal prices holding up reasonably well. Next dividend should be much the same as last one. SP being hammered, doesn’t make a lot of sense.
There seems to be a little progress every couple of days. If it’s settled in a couple of weeks or so we can still expect a dividend at least as good as the last one. The nominal return will then be £6 per share over the 12 months up to April 2023, 40% at current SP. Crazy!
Do I expect that Russian coal sanctions will be lifted in 2223, no I don’t. Given that Russian coal used to be 30% of international coal market, do I expect coal prices to collapse any time soon, no.
Hi, here is something I thought you might find interesting: - https://uk.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/glencore-shares-could-double-according-to-barclays-2756179
40% of world electricity production (approx) is generated from coal, electricity consumption is increasing at 1.6% per year and mostly it seems in countries which have few qualms about burning coal. Coal is going to be a significant player for decades to come. The price is bound to drop at some point, but it may settle at $200 per tonne after a few years I recon.
The form arrived from Computershare this morning for me to complete. Interesting that one has 2 years to lodge a retrospective claim. I transferred my investment account shares from charles Stanley to Computershare a month or so ago. If shares are held by the likes of CS there seems to be no way to get the reduced rate.
