Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
Ok, there’s comment on presentation etc, dealt with by others - However, More than one entity was mentioned in the speech at PDAC, I don’t think many would get through a perfectly understood presentation in Danish? Anyone?
So, we are in serious dialogue it would seem with perhaps RIO, - if I may I will outline why it makes Financial sense
for that company and any other company operating in the USA especially and Europe.
See: https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-03-05/trade-war-deepens-us-probes-titanium-imports-possible-tariff-case
President Trump suggested an investigation into Titanium sponge, Dundas ilmenite is suitable for a version of the chloride process which the TiO2 extracted is turned into metal sponge, or DiOxide powder.
At Present RIO operates 9 smelters at Sorel-Tracy , Quebec - as they have for 65 years. How. ever this last year they have hauled ilmenite 14000km from Madagascar (QIT) it’s only 2000 kms to Dundas seven trips for just one to Madagascar where the ore is blasted and crushed, something that simply sifting the placer deposit sand at Dundas is unnecessary.
This results in huge CO2 savings , not lost I imagine on competition- Lomons, Hartlepool, Cristal etc, German producers, Norwegian, Canadian and the USA where an aluminum/Titanium alloy goes into the latest Jets, Electric vehicles, as TiO2 it goes in Smart coatings, Paints, Foodstuffs etc - it belongs in the modern world.
Resource Nationalism and safety of title is hugely important and to be located virtually in sight of Thule airbase is vital.
This US airbase has operated 24 hours a day every day of the year flights leave on USAF missions
If it is RIO then I’m sure we will have details soon, but these details are far and away a much bigger deal than us doing it ourselves. Ilmenite, 45% is currently $165/185 ton, there’re is an estimate of many hundreds of millions of tons on the whole license, including the beach marine, beach, raised beach all extending Kilometres in and along the best parts - as another company found out when they rescinded the licenses previously unwanted by Bluejay.
It will take time, work will continue this season, continuing the groundwork’s started last year, no doubt adding to the mining fleet.
This is building a quality long term venture, that’s why it’s worth the money.
My own opinion

Good to see all info in one place, the Company Website is great, as is Twitter, but sometimes you miss stuff - I hadn’t seen half the pictures & I must say Greenland is absolutely beautiful in a lot of places. The thing that stands out is the link to a helicopter trip to Itelak - a 15 minute video flying over Ilmenite! Someone, in a board room must be thinking “This is too big to let our competition get hold of. RIO are nearest in the form of Fer et Titane in the Quebec area, they have refitted several smelters However, there are a number of big players who may also be tempted- let’s hope so!
Not intended to annoy, just to indicate what is possible if the right spot is found, think Alba’s Amitsoq May be a great place, also Inglefield- however, there was a lot of pushing Alba as having “basically the same licence” it’s clear that being first mover has had an advantage.
Also correct, we don’t have an interest in Clogau or Horse Hill.
I wish all genuine PI’s well in their investments.

Amazing Tweet, Itelak cores just up - no Permafrost, just metres and Metres of what looks very much like Ilmenite.!
Permafrost: Truly appalling that their drilling team and the leader of that project allowed Alba/Thule and Bluejay Mining to be compared and the licences as equal when they knew full well that Shareholders were losing the value of their Family holdings all the time that this news was not in the public domain.
It was rumoured around. However as private investors we have to rely on official company releases.
This should have been noted to the market that Alba, who are encountering Permafrost were not holding a similar licence in any way shape or form.
They even had the chance to admit on Twitter that thir digs hit frozen Iron/Ilmenite - but it was ridiculed while decent people lost their savings.
Helicopter videos that were taken in different years and climatic conditions cannot be used to draw a conclusion that
a certain piece of land has a different mineral grade. It’s unscientific.
Mineral targets are generated by the consultants, mine plans and specific testing regimes with Augers, core samples and 30m plus drill tubing.
Facts make you money. I hope that the Mineral sands of Greenland make that country a wealthy annuity for years to come. With A Billion tons estimated at Bluejay, 5000 ton deliveries to customers being piled up.
This is a Province being built.
The Forties field of North Sea Oil was inaugurated in 1974 by the Queen on behalf of BP - they were first movers.
Last Month Hurricane Oil put in their seabed production system, 44 years later people are making new discoveries.
Shareholders who got in early to both companies made huge returns.
When Fortescue metals opened up the Pilbara Iron ore province, shareholders made money. Nowadays Rio Tinto, plus numerous others are making money.
Why can’t both companies make some cash? Personally I think the cash made this month is great at Alba.
Don’t get too carried away though.
Bluejay has been working in many forms for a lot of years in Greenland. There’s a reason they chose the licences, it has a decent Port, it has a lot of existing buildings built over the last 5 years. They are ahead, it’s a fact.
They are also running Disko in parallel , this is the big one that may well make Black sands a wonderful partner project.
One of the Worlds largest Nickel mines, potentially the size of Norilsk Talnakh. Look it up.
As a holder of Alba shares from Amitsoq times, I must comment that all Greenland licences are on the Government
of Greenlands Website, Bluejay did in fact hold the licences, and relinquished them. The testing of certain parts of Greenland is very difficult due to Permafrost, the North facing parts are shielded by the land steeply rising from the sea. I would imagine that the use of Lightweight drill equipment would make drilling challenging .
I want Shareholders of both companies to make money, but, it must be done by proper testing, and by third party
(SRK) or similar. It’s not easy to get Bank finance or institutional funding just because a single testing week comes up with some samples.
It’s a fact that Bluejay has been working on this for a couple of years before FinnAust merged and changed to JAY.
That’s quite a few years work. They are ahead in this case, that doesn’t mean Alba cannot succeed.
Let’s look at positives for ALBA, Horse Hill is doing well, The Welsh Gold, Graphite in Southern Greenland, all these are known quantities, but let’s also not get carried away either, we don’t hear much about Melville bay anymore etc
We’re all here to make our savings grow, I hope Alba Does Well as I hope Jay does too.
The very interesting news on Disko will make institutions interested to have a 5.9x1km anomaly in a working Nickel Sulphide area (see previous RNS) is very unique. Greenland is turning into a brilliant place to be - JAY currently the best way to play it. Disko/Massive Magmatic Sulphide system means that they have an enormous licence covering a possible system the same size as Norilsk Talnakh in Siberia - the Russians used Gulag labour to dig out theirs, we have the modern methods which offer an MRI style look underground - hence the target zones. Dont underestimate the importance of this and Kangerluarsuk (44%Pb, 500g/Silver,Zinc) - these could be easily Companies in their own right. Itelak results of Ilmenite are the highest Ive ever seen in an Ilmenite deposit - a Junior that is actually delivering,! whatever next. Dyor.

Agree with the last post, the Power stations will get built and hopefully Redhall will win through. Obviously it can be a bit slow on occasions. When one looks at the proposed electrification of cars - so much more electricity is needed. My strategy has been to look at copper, which is needed in massive quantities- the copper content of electric cars is 4X that of thermal. You then need safe wiring to those homes. The last part is the Power itself, Uranium was supposed to be in demand but remains stubbornly low. Power stations will have to be built if all this Oil energy is to be replaced by Electricity its a vast amount that needs to be covered, windmills wont cover all this energy and there needs to be an installed base of energy that is controlled by the needs of the grid. Redhall seem to have a reasonable business and Im sure that those divisions will be delivering soon, after the capital reduction we may well get back to the dividend paying company we all want.
Hi all, noticed that Mr McIlree is a speaker at the Titanium World Summit. http://www.pigmentmarkets.com/tio2/speakers A very big event for the industry, all major suppliers and purchasers, certainly getting us known I think. Regards R.
Interesting that FAM is holding up well recently, - the possibility of infrastructure projects that need TiO2 pigments for painting will encourage plants to stay open in the US. Hopefully before year end we will have more news on our studies ( Met Ocean, Environment, Dredging & JORC) plus the Possibility that if these are positive we can apply for exploitation. It also gives the stronger possibilities for our Disko & kangerluasak projects becoming very much in focus especially if the US spends more on infrastructure. A couple of exciting projects yet to be priced into FAM imho. Do Research this, it's a good company imho. R.
If you visit the Greenland.com website ( the Govt of Greenland. ) you can clearly see that land temperatures are above freezing for the months of mining - remember this is campaign mining where you go in each season and enjoy the 24hr daylight! I would also point to potential customers - Norway has a hard rock Ilmenite mine at 17% ilmenite - possible to supply there? There are sands on the beach, & Delta - plus the operations proposed are for 5 months - giving time for any life to recover. R
Ok try it another way! Pituffik – ‘the place where they tie their boats’ The nature of Pituffik deposit is very different from other mineral sands deposits and experts suggest Pituffik titanium mineral sands grades may rank among world’s highest. Pituffik’s mineralogy is much simpler and the deposit is seen as unusually consistent. Tonnage, consistency and metallurgical evaluation should help confirm potential value of the in-situ deposit. Quality of mineral sands concentrates is critical with Pituffik appearing suitable for sulphate production. Processing, as with all ilmenite, is required to reduce impurities to acceptable levels. Simple removal of silicates improves the ilmenite product and optimisation of the process route will further improve the product. A major bulk sample is planned with which to prepare samples for testing by consumers. Royal IHC, the Dutch dredging company, is supporting work on the dredging of shallow and near shore marine mineral sands. The support of such a major dredging company is a major positive for the company. Demand for ilmenite concentrates should continue to rise as cost and pollution causes China to cut production of titanium from titano-magnetite iron ores. Avannaa acquisition gives the FinnAust team more to look at in Greenland and option value over some potentially large exploration projects. Valuation on 100% of Pituffik: We value the project at an IRR of 43% and a $144m NPV on an 8% discount rate. This give us an NPV per share of 19 pence. Assumptions: Ilmenite production 332,500tpa. Ilmenite price $130/t less a 10% discount reducing the price to $117/t. Shipping $40/t (>$10/t to Canada). Mining and processing $15/t. Capital cost $60m, though preliminary estimates are significantly lower. Royalty rate 2.5%. Corporate tax 30% starting in year 4. Climate: The project is located in the high Arctic limiting mining to between 3-5 months per year. The project will be subject to campaign mining through the summer. The ground is subject to permafrost with the top meter or so thawing through the summer months hence the preference for dredge mining. Location: Greenland should offer relatively simple extraction site with no community to move and relatively few environmental issues. Work continues with the support from Greenland government agencies. Its near-shore, shallow-marine location on the West coast of Greenland means temperatures fall to a relatively mild -29C for the Arctic through January and February. Ilmenite mineral sands should not freeze below sea ice. *We are grateful for the contribution made by Phil Swinfen toward the preparation of the note FinnAust Mining is advancing toward mining titanium rich, ilmenite mineral sands at its 60% owned Pituffik mineral sands project on the coast of Greenland. The company also has other base metal and mineral licenses

Hello everyone, without it sounding too much like an AA meeting , I'm a Finn Aust shareholder since the Finland Days - can't time everything right! However it did give us a chance to see Western Areas join at a premium & after some extensive research - came to the conclusion that this company could be one of the good ones. Management aligned, a world class resource in Pituffik funding the greater expansion of a Greenland focussed mining group. The Management have been successful before, - but you all know this ,it's just what is sensible for each investor to put in. As the Directors have large holdings, and the cornerstone investor does too, I would guess that we are on firm ground to add over time. This is just my opinion obviously. The project is shaping up well & with a few more staff, we could start to see offtake agreements perhaps? The Blue Jay & Avanaa deals being finalised would be good and will no doubt be under consideration. There are some good partners in too - I have it on good authority that the Dutch dredging co, is very well thought of & the metallurgy came back as good. Very exciting prospect and for once - not an AIM disaster - the website is constantly being updated & looks good. I like it a lot & have started to add on weakness, however my timing can be suspect & is not any kind of gauge ! As Daramuda points out the studies that are underway are critical & the risk averse should note. Let's see how we go from here. Certainly we seem to be placed well when compared to hard rock miners of Ilmenite our product having been stacked in the delta and shallow water for many thousands of years by the glacier. A bit of a gravity separation, perhaps on board the dredge ship, straight to Arctic class ships in 24 hour daylight. could be a great big pile at the end of a season. Looking forward to updates, which I signed up for on the Website. Good luck to us! R.
