With only 10% of stores opened so far I am hoping the management team are taking this opportunity to renegotiate on the majority of leases.
I'm also hoping we can get out of any leases of loss making stores as ultimately this will help the bottom line. I know it's not ideal as there would be job losses but at the end of the day this is a business and in these extraordinary times there needs to be extraordinary measures put in place. I mean would you rather have 1000 stores making £80 million profit or 700 stores making £100 million?
Cutting our costs is the key right now and with no business rates to pay this year along with the VAT deferral untill next year we could come out the other side in a much better position then pre Covid.
The furlough scheme should be utilised as much as possible. The management should only bring back staff where necessary and leave the majority on furlough. I have been in to a few stores and feel the stores could be run on 50% staff in the current situation.
Cash is king right now and we need to do everything possible to preserve this. There will be opportunities in the future so with preserved cash we could be ready to pounce.
The above are all my thoughts and opinions but please DYOR and good luck.
