Wow - It's only just turned 10am in UK and there has been £220.9K worth bought and £1.3K sold.

It's puzzling. Some owners are going to feel the pinch in the next few months and they might look to rehome their pets but I doubt they'd have them actually put down. Even if they switch suppliers and move to a budget shop, sales might fall by let's guess 5%, research in US predicts global pet service market to grow at a compound rate of 9.1% PA 2022 to 2030. Answers anyone?

Biffa Waste Services Ltd has been at the centre of the second legal action of its kind in as many years, as the company found itself outside the law on which materials can be exported to developing countries. Judge Shane Collery QC told Wood Green crown court Biffa had shown no contrition. He found the company’s previous comments about being picked on by the Environment Agency and no public interest served in being prosecuted a second time as “aggravating and unattractive.”
Biffa’s latest breaches of export law uncovered by the Environment Agency involved rolling contracts to send vast amounts of waste to India and Indonesia. Material exported illegally included 50,000 tins; 40,000 plastic bags; 25,000 items of clothing; 3,000 nappies – and even a frying pan, condoms and a souvenir New York t-shirt. Inspecting the waste, investigators recorded “a strong putrid” smell and an “acidic aroma.”

Could this guy be the very same Graeme Coulthard - Partner of Private equity investment firm, Charterhouse Capital Partners LLP, who became a non-executive director of CARD in 2010 when Charterhouse acquired the business. His resignation followed the sale by Charterhouse of 4M shares in 2015.
He must have seen an opportunity in WRKS too good to miss at 28p (ish). Looks like this could be of strategic importance to him and it's the right side of Christmas too. Hold onto your hats!

Good point TD. Sounds like someone just put a finger in the air to decide which way sales are going. Surely budget shop can expect more trade in times of recession, not less!?! Although some of the regular customers would reduce their spending, there is bound to be a migration in from higher end shops - IMHO (But I know nothing).

I tend to think this drop is an overreaction. Online sales were obviously higher when we were afraid to go out, but this kind of retailer benefits from browsing customers- I've done it myself. ALSO don't forget school holidays might mean mums buying things for kids to do indoors- out of the sun - and Christmas shopping will begin soon, with people hunting for bargains in times of recession.

IMHO It's tricky to guess which way sales will go but people who like a drink will carry on drinking. We may have cheaper drinks or buy Marstons bottles from the supermarket ; Pedigree, Banks's, Hobgoblin. The colder evenings might draw in customers to pubs who don't want to turn on their lighting and heating, especially with free WiFi. I'd imagine young families with rising bills probably never spent much time in the pub anyway. Just my musings - DYOR.

I've just been out for the day to TENBY and there were loads of dogs everywhere! Never seen so many pets out and about.

My understanding is that MS Galleon AG (Vienna) is controlled by Polish entrepreneur Michal Solowow and in October he acquired 21.1% of TOPPS, so it is clearly of interest to him and his bathroom ceramics company, CERSANIT. They are currently pulling out and selling off Russian interests due to the situation in Eastern Europe. Makes me wonder what the next move might be.

TODAY'S NEWS:
UK retail sales rose in April driven by strong food store sales, in particular ALCOHOL and tobacco.
Comes as no surprise to me, given the stress people are feeling.

Looking at the last five years results they have only missed paying a dividend in 2020, all other years it was between 3.1p and 3.4p per share. Even if it's only 3pps this year, that's still a cracking return if you only paid 52p for the share.

I agree with you Tony. PETS offers high quality pet food, well trained and knowledgeable staff plus a trusted VETS service. Those customers who are retired with inflation linked income will remain loyal, putting PETS in a stronger position.

Decided to bail out this morning and take a loss even though I'm a customer via Asda Mobile contract. I was really badly stung by holding onto RCH and still feel the pain so don't want to risk that again. DYOR GLA
