Thought I'd have a look back at Rexam board. I got out in Jan. Fed up of wailing for Ball action. Could have got higher sp if still in - but that's investing. Agree with Iguana "Whats going on"?? Regards to Drifty if you still have a peep on here from time to time. Good luck to all stillinvested - REX served me very well over more than 25 years. NB
'Mornin & a belated "Happy New Year" - To all listening! Drifty and I seem to have this board to ourselves at the moment. Finally out of REX (We'll have to fin another place to talk - any suggestions?) I presume REX will vanish when merger/TO goes through. Like Mr "D" I've been in REX for some 20 years. "Parked" some of proceeds in M&S (as previously suggested) and also BARC ( The NAV is well above SP at present) I'll just wait & see.. Hope to be able to keep in touch. On a social note - It would be nice to re visit Outback (Very fond memories) Planning to visit Lesser Antilles later this month. I'm retired from "Professional" travelling now! Best Wishes. NB
Christmas Eve - and all's well.(?) I just did some "sums". Ball s p seems to vary in range $68-72. Dollar worth abt 66p Gives a value for the takeover of somewhere near your remark of 628. My broker says I should be able to sell any residual Ball shares for my usual 1% comm. So I'm still holding for the time being. Like you I'm in SBRY & TSCO - maybe come good again one day. Memories of Melbourne include Philip Island and Ballarat. Had nice lady friend in Bondi (Sydney). Hope you have a good Christmas. Regs.... NB
Mornin' Driftking, Thanks for info. Hope my shortening of yr name is OK. I missed the high point of over 600p the other day. - Can't spend all my time at a computer. Must ring my broker for any info he might have - else - I'll try to get out at abt 600 if I can. My 1200 shares will yield something close to the figure you mentioned. Although the two 'AA's in front of your "£" may suggest Aussie Dollars ???. I was based Sydney and Melbourne for a couple of years in the 70's Ideas..... 1. If you are a bit of a gambler you might like to think about Sirius Minerals (SXX). maybe £12-1500. Could be BIG returns within 3 years. I'm already in and just biding my time . Plenty of chat on their BB. 2. A safe(ish) hole for short term (up to 12 mths) IMO is good old M&S They'll surely come back to 500p So 10% or so in a year may be worth it. 3. Same sort of thinking ---GLAXO?? Hope you have a Happy Christmas. ATB Keep in touch?? NB
'Morning Mr Drifty, Back again after some travels. I see SP is now generally DRIFTING up. Nice. Can you tell me where the suggested price of 628p has come from? I had thought the T/O had been priced at 610p. I can't remember having seen any more info about how the consideration may be made up (how much cash and how many Ball shares). Was this included in the details available when the T/O was first announced?? 12 months or more ago! Any info will be greatly appreciated. Hope that you get what you are aiming for re SP before "T/O DAY". Good Luck. N B
Thanks Drifty, Like you I don't particularly want to hold Ball shares or stock. Often in the past in take-overs like this there has been an option to immediately sell the foreign shares as part of the " process ". The major part of the consideration is in cash so I imagine/hope that small shareholders ending up with a "rump" of a tiny holding in Ball might be offered such an option.. G L. NB
Can anyone remind me please when the takeover is expected to happen? Been off for a bit. Like many others I'v been a holder of REX for years (pre 2000)!. If T?O is early 2016 and at abt 610p then there's a nice little profit going on current price of 521p. All the best to other small shareholders. NB
SP now < 480p - A good time to BUY. NB
Hello Mr Schiffer, I think it all depends on what your objectives are. Rexam is never going to set the world on fire BUT it is a share which appears to move cyclicly within a quite narrow but RELIABLE band (Presently 485-ish to 545-ish) This is usually enough to let you make 5+% twice a year AFTER dealing costs. I'm sure you will realise that you cannot expect to pick the top/bottom prices except by pure luck (- hence my guarded comments on prices and %) If you are happy to take such level of profit then by all means buy REX. I've been a long term holder (for 25+ years now), but also trade in and out on a regular basis taking these regular profits. Why not consider joining me?? Good luck. NB
xd or not xd, in my opinion (years of practice) at 490p and now turned the bottom - - -NOW is the time to BUY. Even if we see only 5 - 8% in 2 - 3 months this will be a winner for REXAM followers. Good Luck NB
It's been a while since I held Marstons (3+ yrs) But I watch the price regularly. I've just been tempted to buy back in - mainly for med term growth and the dividend. And of course I'm a beer drinker> Let's see where it goes. Good Luck all. NB
Just starting to follow this. A Qn please - Callmeace, you say "Nov @ 300+ and Div...." When is 2014 interim expected to be paid?? Hope you don't mind the Qn. Regards NB
Back from Hols, I see price has been up (547p ??) and now down. Heading for my 500p buy level. Agree with Gideon. Hope we all are soon in profit. NB
Well Corlis, that's one to you!!. REX just touched 540 early today. - - But if you're not in you can't take advantage. I'm still waiting (and watching) Nice one MF. Best Regards NB
C38 .....I'm watching - NB
I think I'll wait for below 500. - No rush in my opinion. Still have my long/long term holding. Half year results due at start of August but I don't expect anything out of the ordinary.. I think the price will just move in line with FTSE and I think that's going to fall. GL to all ( Not many folk watching REX?) NB
Hello Corlis, I think you & I both watch this one to the same ends. - Look back at February/ March posts As said in previous posts, I tend to use observed cyclical movement to decide when to buy/sell. What is your trick?? Best of luck. NB
Hi Gideon, I remain a very long term (23 yrs+) investor in RXM. But with a lot of FTSE 100 companies I use their cyclic movements to "trade" in and out to take short term profit where I can. No problem with my broker yesterday selling shares. I'll still benefit from the reconstruction on the bulk of my RXM holding. I don't let divivdends, etc affect my decisions to take profits on my short term actions. Good Luck .. .. NB
in at 482 (Mid March) and now can sell at abt 535. 9% profit in abt 10 weeks. (AFTER COSTS) Not too bad . wish I could do this every 10 weeks. (See my post 14th March) - Sainsbury is showing abt 7-8% so maybe time to "profit take there too. GL NB
Does Saga really think that £740 is a realistic investment in any organisation?? Maybe the offer is so over subscribed that they think this sensible. PI's offering to invest up to £5k should be regarded as worth having - many of them would stay with the Co for some while. I would imaging most folk offered such a small slice will just get out as soon as costs can be covered. My brokerage costs make this a nonsense investment. I note that a number of recent IPO's have gone for these small allocations so this is likely to be my last venture in IPO's for some time. If Saga management think this is the way to treat investors then they are wrong. I do not wish to invest in a company whose directors I cannot understand. GOODBYE - I will not even wish you (SAGA) my usual - "Good luck". Rubbish Get out and invest elsewhere. Lol to all other disgruntled would be shareholders NB
