£2 Billion of buybacks are taking place just in 2022, with hopefully more to follow each and every year for the foreseeable. Certainly whilst the BOD deem them to be good investments.

I think you will find that taking up to 4 Billion shares off of the market in 2022 will be a few more than employees purchasing new shares.
That is another problem - moaners think that all bank staff get shares for free.
I get sick of saying the same thing. Investors are free to invest in a company where the employees are not given savings schemes to purchase shares, but investors may find that most large companies will offer such schemes to the people helping to make a business a profit.

no recommendation there just a company that he could look at to decide if it was for him or not.
I am investing for the long term happy getting a good yield so shouldn't be concerned with total return on a year to year basis, as a reduction in share price only affects the shareholder on a sale.
I have invested in HFEL because I wanted to get into funds/trusts being managed for me - I have enough individual stocks to manage myself. I am not bothered about the HFEL share price as it will be a very long term investment. Top ups would be made on any significant drops. In the long run I don't expect the capital value to be less than my average buying price. So basically a flat capital value with a 8% and rising yield would do me fine.

you are getting a return of getting on for 5p - personally I think a return of 10% on the current share price is very good.

Maybe if they had decided to purchase £2 Billion of Barclays shares instead of Lloyds shares, then that would be ok by thickos.
Both would be investments - its just that one is labelled a buyback.

100% correct - the only thing the investment in Lloyds shares will do is to reduce the share count.
If investors want eps to increase then maybe you could suggest to the BOD a better investment to make than Lloyds

It is the BOD that have decided that a return by way of buybacks is a good solution for shareholders. I am happy with their decision. They make the decisions - if you don't like it, you are free to invest elsewhere.

The market decides though on a continuous basis the value of each share
