The value of the Marstons brewing business was nearly 3 times more than that of Carlsberg brewing UK at the creation of Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC),but Marston only ended up with a 40% stake because in addition Carlsberg paid Marstons about an additional £270 million in cash.

For nearly £41 million.

Hopefully they will use some of the proceeds for a share buyback or tender offer.

Current market cap of £340 million is way below NAV

The insurance company Ping An would have preferred splitting the business last year when HSBC completely rebuffed their suggestion.

Since then HSBC has greatly increased returns to shareholders and made sales of those assets that they no longer wanted for the future direction.

Forgot - HSBC announced another 3 Billion dollar buyback after the recent completion of a 2 Billion dollar programme.

Lloyds should think about increasing the 12 month buyback budget whilst at such low pricing levels.
