You post is the only bit of semi sense I've hard so far today. Although I don't want to go back to the swinging 60s. I want to combine the mentality of the swinging 60s with the comfortable living afforded by modern science (dishwashers, microwaves, underfloor heating, personal aerial transportation devices, free love, ****ing a different woman each week, speedboats, Aga's, and with all this free time the men can chop wood and build furniture and the women can stop being *****es and get with the new reality).
WalkersWorld,
Nice to read your post.
The basic problem with the UK is the lack of productivity. I need tens of cubic metres of 70mm thick insulation boards, or 100mm thick polystyrene blocks. I also need large panes of double glazing - approximately 2.4 metres by 4 metres. Some pieces straight and some curved. There is no one producing these items at a cost I can afford. And it is not easy to produce them myself as I find it hard to work with people who have a much lower level of scientific knowledge. I have nothing against them - but it causes me problems as they may do stupid things due to their lack of education.
A good win for The Conservatives. I was wrong, they did not get a kicking at all,
However, Labour supporters are nutz so it is not surprising that nobody likes them. One supporter tried to blame a pandemic for Labour's defeat. That is like trying to blame the pitch when it is the same for both teams.
Rosewall where is your humanity. Imagine in three or four generations time your heirs have married slightly below mediocre and their children are now facing having to live in homeless hostels. Would that be good enough for you - imagining you had been born three or four generations further down your blood line? The other alternative is to stop all of this pretty politics and actually raise living standards for the masses. Just tell your mates to sell their housebuilders shares and bonds/debt because very soon land is going to be almost free - as it should be - the value is in the building not in the land.
Thanks TheFarEnd. I have just got back from enjoying a nice evening walk in the countryside. Hope Lloyds is remembering to support the essential businesses including agri-tourism. Although don't let the tourists eat all the produce/artisan products for goodness sake - these still needs to be enough left over to trade for worthwhile quantities of other things which we need.
The biggest thing to get the UK moving again would be to move all freight around using a dedicated hi-speed freight system by 2030. I envision it being based upon electro-magnetic induction technology (like the Bullet trains in Japan). Due to the high speed air resistance is the largest issue and that is why the use of vacuum tunnels ought to be considered. With a bit of neat computing software I think it ought to be possible to add a shipping container of goods to any access point (every couple of miles along the entire network of tens of thousands of miles of vacuum tunnels) and to have it pop out again (where it needs to be) at any location with the UK (including Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, and Eire) within 180 minutes of when it entered the system. I imagine the containers moving at average speeds of 500mph when in the system - computers can shuffle them around into side-ings to keep everything moving towards their final destinations at the same average speed - the meaning of true equality). You see the future of the UK - high-tech socialism funded by hard-nosed capitalism.
