Apologies numpty one deserve some response. We are way, way beyond any contribution from that second rate broker & frankly darling I don’t give a damn. I believe my spat With Spangles PDub has been totally vindicated, the last week has proved catagorically that thei continuing pessimistic forecasts held us back previously in a really bad way & I want them sacked ASAP.

Well said Ophidian. I demonstrated at 13.26 yesterday that a £120k gain , properly & legitimately managed would only have a 6% tax take. A very small price to pay. I will remain here in regular touching distance of my 3 kids & 7,soon to be 8, grandkids thank you. At a full 20% if I pay £1m tax I think I will still have plenty !

Ignorance is no excuse, if that is the case the taxpayer is required to request one.

@Somtam67, are you being serious? You have to calculate your gains/losses & submit them to HMRC as part of your annual tax return. Then you will get a tax demand for payment on or before 31 January following the tax year in question.

@abbynparit that is quite a detailed question which could have several answers & further questions. It looks as if you are in a good position so spend a few £ & employ a good tax accountant

You don’t even need a second ISA with your original provider, you just invest the £20k into the existing account

Good grief, Pdub I agree with you.

Just think if as a married couple you bought 400k in Bushveld at 20p putting 2 x 100k in ISA’s & 200k in a joint trading account. You sell them all at 50p realising a gain of £120k. Taxable £60,000 - £23,400 = £36,600 at 20% = £7,320, an effective rate of just over 6%. No room for complaint.

I agree 20% CGT is a small price to pay, especially with a generous 5 figure exemption & ISA to go with it. Pay up with a broad smile.
