We are back!!! Some websites have three places for two of the Southwell races today :-)
I actually had a few bets on Toulouse last night and made a small profit but glad we can go back to normal today - nine races at one meeting on Saturday so making up for lost time..
This is sad news.. thought the horses were vaccinated (???)... I presume this means it doesn't stop the flu - just lessons the impact/time of infection? Obviously need to spend as long as it takes to clear this issue - it wouldn't surprise me if racing is not back 100% to March - it's a bit weird just to focus on the one meeting (Meydan-Fairview-Dundalk).. per day but more funds hopefully for Cheltenham GLA
I note in The Independent that the EU want to stop the veto on tax law and go to qualified majority voting - not sure Ireland would like this considering their low corporate tax rate. Freedom of movement - same tax rates - same trading regulations - Euro army - foreign minister (planned) - same currency - is the EU becoming one country in all but name - and remainers want this!!??
The answer is to either get fully out or stay in - half in half out pleases no one...
I see Corbyn wants the vote on the deal NOW - not in mid January. LOL perhaps let have it at 11.59pm on New Years Eve - I am sure 640 MPs will turn up to vote :-)
TBH it has been refreshing to have a week off from the media discussing Brexit 24/7 although I suspect January will make up for lost time!
Well done Philip with Augergnat... Rons Dream got 4th so a small profit at Chepstow.. makes a change for a favourite to win! At work so hopefully have time for a few more tips at the weekend - thanks everyone for the tips during 2018 and good luck all next year!
Interesting debate here - both sides rational (imo) reasons to remain and leave.
Lets go back to 2015 - David Cameron told the EU he would have a referendum on membership and concessions before the vote would help. The EU told him were to go. Not one concession - even if it was minor like FoM continues but you first must apply and have a job when moving to another country - or you needed to confirm every 2-3 years that you were still employed. To be fair, the UK has opt outs - is not in the Euro - so some say leavers do not know what they want BUT remainers can have different versions of membership too like full intergration.
My point is that I find it hard to want to be a member of an organisation that sticks 100% to its rules and box ticking and will not negotiate or compromise - most people who voted remain did so (i presume) for FoM and fictionless trading. Most people who voted leave also did so for FoM but being independent to make free trade deals and having the ability to make all the law in the UK was key - hence the reason why the country is so split - both camps have different priorities and reasons so neither side really wish to discuss the other sides reasons because they are not interested in the topics that matter to the other side.
One last point - the EU never came back to the UK to offer a deal ... to remain (even after leaving Cameron with nothing). Now why is this? Any compromise on FoM, opt outs and allowing more laws to be decided in the member countries then obviously a vast majority in this country will be happen to stay.
kenj - tend to agree - the 1975 referendum was acted upon - the Scottish referendum decision and the voting change referendum decision carried out - the only difference this time is that the 2016 result was to CHANGE the status quo - that's the issue imho - not whether it should be carried out or not.
We have a dividend parliament so what will another referendum solve? They will still be divided!
IF there is another vote (I hope not) then it is clear it should be in two parts 1) remain or leave and then 2) the remain voters decide whether they want to stay opted out of the euro and further intergration or become full EU members of all elements and the leave voters decide whether it is May's deal - Norway/Canada or WTO and before and vote parliament must commit to carry out the decision! (and that there s/b a third referendum in five years time to clarify the decision made). Any thing less than giving us all the options available in a second referendum will be a cop out - no point having a vote on either remain or May's deal - hard to decide which is worse lol
It's not really a deal though is it? It's a "withdrawal agreement".. the terms of transition - the period - the option of extension - the backstop that might be used at the end of 2020 or 2022 depending on any extension. It's the future FTA that's vague and open to debate - but whether we had a deal or not - it takes ALL 27 EU countries to agree to a future FTA - that's why France/Spain have us over a barrel and why some believe we will never get out of transition. So the options are (imo) either this blind Brexit - try to get changes to the backstop - or EEA/Norway plus. Of course there's also "no deal" or 2nd referendum .. but if some here believe the public should never have been asked in the first place - what makes a 2nd Ref valid? How can Joe Public decide if a 558 page agreement is worth voting for? Or what the future will be if we opt to stay in the EU (future contributions/integration/FoM). Or whether WTO no deal is worth the risk? (mind you we will burn our bridges with the EU taking this option - they will still try to get the £39 billion divorce money - some of which relates to pension commitments etc.
It's a mess and different fractions of parliament have different objectives - there seems to be no majority for any options.
If only the EU have conceded ground with Cameron in 2015 ie. FoM continuing but citizens required proof of work first or UK to have ability to opt out of future laws etc. (mind you non EU migration is higher than EU migration - so much for controls)
Good morning - missing Cheltenham due to commitments but have put some bets on. 150 Mysteree - not sure why this horse is 40/1 rarely out of places also like THE YOUNG MASTER 225 Happy Diva (picking a couple as six places on some sites) Have a successful day all
Well done Philip - really enjoyed the racing. Uncle Benny beaten on the line but good e/w return.
Sky have a good promotion today - 150 Ascot - 2nd place paid out as winner - so gone for Peppay Le Pugh who has been on fire recently - hopefully will make the top two places GLA
