I was just going to share that AMD YouTube Promo/Explainer video for Device Authority KeyScaler. Anyway, good to see Kkriss got there ahead of me. This is a great follow up from AMD's official press release from 27th Feb which was all about AMD targeting the IoT market. A news release that was bolstered by supporting statements from the likes of Jason Shepherd, IoT CTO at Dell, and Darron Antill, CEO of Device Authority.
The IoT is all about masses of low processing-power (energy efficient) devices communicating and collaborating securely. That might be why AMD is talking about KeyScaler on the 3rd Generation AMD G-Series J-Family SOCs which are targeted for use in Thin Client, Digital Signage, Digital Gaming, Retail Point of Sale, Industrial/Automation, Military/Aerospace, Media & Collaboration, Smart Camera and more.
My thoughts:
The newest Ryzen/Epyc embedded chips are still compatible with KeyScaler (as per the de-ramper letter 'gotcha') but will be reserved for the higher-end more powerful connected devices (medical imaging, rich home entertainment for example). You don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut - likewise you wouldn't put an Epyc Embedded chip in a security camera. Furthermore, such powerful Ryzen/Epyc devices will easily run various modern OSes, apps, and security solutions like KeyScaler - just like you can install and run what you like on your modern home PC. What I'm thinking is why bake-in any software on sophisticated systems with large amounts of memory and storage? That is only really necessary on those tiny low power devices like smart speakers, smart doorbells and similar.
Moral of the story to de-rampers - to get the right answer you must ask the right question.
AMD video link worth repeating again, and again:
