Our latest Investing Matters Podcast episode with QuotedData's Edward Marten has just been released. Listen here.
I am sure that a year ago, April '23, as AZ sat across his walnut Boston cherry conference table sipping his Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee from his "I am the BOSS" mug, he reflected to Albert that "this time next year Albert we will be millionaires...again". So Albert stated publicly that there is "significant" interest in Syme and in the coming months "we can shed our start up tag". He also stated of course that there would be challenges and further opportunities ahead.
If AZ is as good in making Syme a success as David Jason was playing Del Boy then his mantra "This time next year, Rodders, we WILL be millionaires!' should be due next month! Interestingly, the hit show was set in Peckham, south east London, but Del and Rodney's flat in 'Nelson Mandela House' was in fact Harlech Tower in Acton, in the west of the capital. Now selling for well over £1.1 million. So Del was off by a few years, but did come good in the end.
To me, for whatever little my two pence is worth, which is nothing, the more AZ is an Italian 'dellboy" the better. The more flying by the seat of his pants, the far more cleverer, shiftier, smarter than I he is, the more ruthless and sociopathic he is, amante del rischio, giving all, yes at my and your expense, the more likely he is to pull this off. Sure he led us all to think that this was going to fly years ago, ready now etc but I have worked with ruthless people who would say anything, treat people appallingly to get what they wanted. I put a lot of money (for me) in here just after suspension believing in the idea and, yes, him as well. Do I feel betrayed? Not at all. I am an adult. I went back to work to pay for a share of this concept, with a single minded, ruthless individual driving it. He hasn't got the time to spend caring for those that fall away. It's high risk. I knew it was v high risk when I pressed my HL button. he's giving birth to a behemoth and he needs to be the biggest bas***d out there to do it. I don't care that he doesn't give a toss for me. He may fail and I will lose all my money, but by clinging on here at least I have a chance of changing circumstances for my kids rather than dying and leaving them a few thousands for funeral costs.
So AZ applies to Banco BPM for 1 million bucks and gets it, I apply to my local Bank of Scotland for a measly £345,672.30p for a Ferrari Roma Spider V8 twin turbo, 3855cc 7500rpm with an 8-speed F1 DCT transmission and get told to p***s off. What tharabout?
Talking of infested chat rooms, a few people here know as I do that Syme has probably had, and got, the most deramping bb in the history of LSE bb's. 3 years ago it was full of interesting research and positivity then the derampers moved in and 3 most of the investors moved out to TG groups. It is now generally a wasteland cesspit of bickering and negativity. The same will happen here (until results drive them out) unless all invested simply ignore their inaccurate and negative comments. Your response is their oxygen.
I would tend to agree. The only reason for looking in now is to see my thousands of pounds, in someone else's pocket way out of reach and reminisce about how naive I was to invest. 1% here to see a mighty phoenix rising from the ashes. No you're correct, dead as a dodo.
For those that question where everyone has gone, most long term holders have gone into telegram groups, and there, the debate about aspects of the company, both critical and positive, are continued. It would be nice to have this chat room as a place where, the invested, could also exchange views, in an atmosphere of mature and responsible debate, however certain people, for whatever motives, never explained, have prevented constructive, and critical, debate/research, preferring instead to resort to making it about the person and exclusively concentrating on the negative, for, one could speculate, an ulterior motive. Simply put, long term investors in this company can no longer be bothered with the petty squabbles that infest this bb, preferring to concentrate on researching, debate, and yes, criticism of certain aspects, in the development and progress of this company.
Feklar and others...tiresome as this is and again my apologies for using up space here when it should be devoted to PREM matters, (and positively my last comment here) but when right wing ignorance rears its head it has to be countered with facts. Alex Epstein is a right wing writer. The consensus among research scientists on anthropogenic global warming has grown to 100%, based on a review of 11,602 peer-reviewed articles on “climate change” and “global warming” published in the first 7 months of 2019. Global warming caused by human activity is a fact.
I'm sorry Raaydaar and to all here for going off prem dialogue but during the last transition out of the ice age, the Earth’s average surface temperature warmed about 4°C, but that temperature rise occurred over a period of about 10,000 years.
Humans have caused nearly 1°C warming over the past 150 years. 97% of research scientist believe we are warming the planet 20 times faster than it has ever warmed. 97%. Apologies for the intrusion and, I know, hypocrisy, being invested here.
The company is not just AZ, and how many people on here criticizing him are millionaires ? He is. Don't take the Warren buffet quote literally...his quote means that if you are not willing to hold a stock for a long term then you shouldn't be holding it in the short term. It is totally agreed that the expectations made years ago have not come to fruition, because we all want to be rich don't we. But putting your feelings aside, this is a great concept and it must overcome hurdle after hurdle to accomplish such a concept and put the practicalities in place. For sure a percentage of lth's are frustrated at the slow progress, maybe the majority, the seemingly broken promises, lots of us are way down etc It's a mammoth task, and it's taking longer than anticipated but continue to hang on and complain if it gets the frustration out, but let's see what happens. My feeling (for the little it's worth) is it won't be long before we head north.
I think Strangemartian is spot on there. RTOP is doing so well streaking skywards whilst we appear to be left on AZ's bridesmaid's shelf. We were promised 'something significant' but it feels like we're coughing in the dust of AZ's speeding away Ferrari. I still have faith, still, perhaps naively, think this will fly too one fine day, but, goodness, it's been hard enough for 3 years and now we have humiliation as well as AZ party's in the next room.
Did you know Ex that there is a company on the LSE named BARC. You probably won't know that I don't have any shares in BARC therefore I haven't commented 12 times in the last 30 days on BARC's bulletin board. I believe this is a common experience amongst investors.
